Hey all, let me start by saying I'm not trying to call anyone out, but to me it seems the purpose and spirit of this thread is getting lost. One in ten of the "trades" over the last couple months are new guys buying cigar samplers from veterans. I know a lot of new guys don't have massive collections to trade from, I know I didn't when I participated in the thread a few years back. But I still took pride in packing up my sampler, getting my first sfr box and shipping it off to JavaJunkie. I was so excited for when if finally arrived and he posted pictures of it! And I was just as excited to get my ass handed to me by his return fire and reading my first Trader Rating. The best part of finally becoming a vet, to me anyway, was finally being able to participate in the thread and hook up a couple new guys.

Now it seems like most new guys sign up to buy some sticks from a veteran, proving their ability to pay with PP. Part of the fun of trading is actually packing and shipping cigars.

With that being said, Brent, please put me in for a trade.

Again, hope no one is offended. My apologies if you are!
While I agree with what you are saying, a lot of the vets seem to prefer to do cash deals and I don't blame them. They would rather send a newb some good sticks and get some cash in return, than wind up with a bunch of yard gars that will likely go into the back of the humidor and stay there. Additionally, when I signed up for my own newb trade a few months back I had like 12 sticks and it was far easier for me to shoot a vet some funds than pack up half the sticks I had and send them to a guy who would probably be less than impressed.

Not attempting to derail your comments, just my 2 cents. :)

Yep, I agree with you, it is a lot easier to simply buy some cigars than actually work out a trade. Personally, as a sponsor, I wasn't looking to get cigars, I was looking to help a new guy gain some cred and show he could engage in a trade. Sponsoring a new guy once every couple months wasn't so bad and I didn't wind up with a pile of dog rockets. On the contrary, a some guys hit pretty hard. And if they didn't I still appreciated the effort. Also, it's not too difficult for a new guy to go to his B&m to pick up a few cigars to trade. Either way, he's paying somebody...

Again, I'm not calling anyone out, just making an observation. I used to enjoy seeing what the new guys were up to and how a sponsor retaliated. Now it's mostly a "show me your latest purchase" thread.

Smiley!
Things are different now
