Tats seem to get a ton of love on here-- if I was inclined to try the brand for the first time, is this a good sampler?

Tbh brother, they're good, but those are more of the limited edition type of tats. I would recommend finding the mainline stuff, the sticks that you would normally find at a local shop. Forgive me, idk the names but the brown labels. Fausto is good but it's a fuller body stick. I like the cojonu 2003 a lot!

J. Fuego Origen Maduro Original
Underwhelming through the first half. Just dark cocoa and dark coffee with an occasional pepper sting or dark earth.

In the second half some sweetness in the background and the coffee is a little lighter. A very dry smoke.

The final third is dark earth, dark tobacco, dark cocoa, sweet tobacco and sweet coffee. None of the flavors are really popping out. The cigars will go to the bottom of the stash for a while. Hopefully time will help.

After looking at J. Fuego's site I have my suspicions confirmed. This is not the same blend as the Origen. This one is 1/3 Nic. ciollo, 1/3 Honduran Corojo, and 1/3 San Andres. The original was 1/2 Nicaraguan corojo and 1/2 Honduran Corojo. A very different set of filler blends and very different tasting cigars. To further switch things up the Maduro wrapper is Matafina instead of Brazilian corojo. The only thing that seems to have carried over is the Costa Rican corojo binder and Honduran corojo. The Maduro may be better as a larger cigar that lets the multitude of tobaccos have more speaking room.
