It must depend on what state one is filing for.
If you live in a state where you have to file a state return it's $24.95 with that program. As far as mailing in, I don't think that matters. It gave a generic list, not specialized or picked out address for my return at all. I had to mail in Federal and State.

Hmmmm, now that I think about it when I used TurboTax in the Army I had to sign and mail forms (both state and Fed) when e-filing and when I was in Virginia I didn't have to.

In the Army I was paying taxes to Michigan.

I think the state is the key.

No kiddin Todd?

You wouldn't think it would matter, but I guess that's how they work it. I just know that with the e-file on express1040.com you don't have to mail anything in. My co-workers have been using it for years...so I'm not sure if it's just the kind of software that you're using along with the State you're filing in...not real sure.

:dunno:

That's just beyond strange. I'll have to pay attention when I do it this year and see what it says. Makes no sense to me that different states would have different rules. And why the hell would you efile if you had to mail something anyway? Bah.

Yeah, strange isn't the word for it. Not sure if that's how it will go for you. And, Florida doesn't have State taxes either. And I'm speaking for hrblock.com and that alone. I have no experience with any other sites or software. It could be they do that to ensure proper filing, I really cannot speak for other sites.
