  1. Don't stick your dick in crazy
  2. Even the largest software companies in the world are stupid
It's been quite the day today. First I was informed by my ex that she, her husband and my daughter are moving to Florida middle of next month. Then I lost about 6 years worth of work email and apparently we have zero backups.

So do I puke? Cry? Or something different entirely?

Ooof! Sorry to hear that.

I vote "other". Pour a 4-finger bourbon of the good stuff & see which of the other two happen. :)

And if 'misery loves company' is true, you make take some solice in my afternoon. Granted tech support remote access today, and the first words out of his mouth were "oh my". Was down for ~3 hours. Still not sure if it's fixed.

My daughter is 13 and this isn't a malicious move on my her mothers part at all actually. Unfortunately I probably don't have much of a legal leg to stand on either, but will be looking into what options could be on the table.

It might not be with malicious intent but it would make it more than extremely difficult for you to spend time with your daughter. What sort of custody do you have?

I may be wrong, but I believe in order for her to move your daughter across state lines she has to have your consent. So I agree with @multi-useless on this one. Call the lawyer. Of course you may want to see your daughters point of view on it all first. Forcing her against her wishes to stay may hurt your relationship horribly.
Good luck with this. And as stated earlier smoke something you like with a glass of something strong.

I don't know US laws, but here she would not have any legal right to do that without your consent. Just changing scholar jurisdiction requires mediation. Malicious intent or not, this is wrong for the child.

Question has been asked but not answered : how does your daughter feel about it?

Also, how come your ex gave you the news like that? Don't she have to consult you on anything related to your daughter? Shouldn't be news if it's all set, as she should have had consulted you already.

Talk to your lawyer. Now.

Regarding Ex.... Review options and make the best next step. By best, I mean what's best for your daughter? You always have options. Call a lawyer to see if you have a voice in the matter, Talk about Plan to have All Holidays with you.... Summer, Winter Break etc.
Regarding Work.... Morn the loss and move on... Learn from the incident to always back up your shit... (a lesson I've also learned).

Man, Advice is easy when I don't have to follow it...

Really sorry that your having to deal with this Brother.

2) Work is only work... if it has become the center of your life, you have bigger problems. Nothing you can do at this point, so cope and move on.

1) This one is tough. If you do what's best for your daughter, then you're doing it right. Good luck.

I would side with the 4 finger pour in the moment with something strong, burning something that will last. Pour yourself a second 4 finger and finish your smoke. Then wake up in the morning and deal with the problems at hand. Figuring out what your daughter wants and go from there, it make make you sick to your stomach at first but I'm sure you could make some positive thoughts out of it as well. Once you finally get everything settled on the family aspect, you then worry about work. Family is much more important. Best wishes to you through your difficult times brother!

I know how you feel bro. I went through a similar situation with my ex when we got divorced. It's a long ass story, but it turns out I'll be following them down to Georgia to be closer to my son.

I wish you the best of luck.
