Pairing : IPA (Zombie Dust)
Initial light : 0:30
Initial appearance : solid hand roll with triple cap. Pre light smells of cinnamon and sweet tobacco. Loosely rolled but minimal veigning. Very nice presentation.
Let's toast the foot and get this thing rolling.
Lighting was fairly easy and the triple cap clipped flawlessly. The first draw was cardboard and evidence of a loose roll. The draw was too open at first, but tightened a little as it came into the first 1/2". It settled at a 6/10. Too loose for my taste, but not like a paper towel roll. You know what I mean.
First light... Flavor is... Not terrible. White pepper, cocoa, charred meat. It becomes very muted and muddled in the first 1/2". Some ammonia rears its ugly head. The draw is too loose. Though the construction is solid, I can tell this is probably a budget cigar. (Watch it be something decent. I don't mind sticking my foot in my mouth.) Burn is solid through the first 1".
1st 1/3 - it's not horrible. It's not great. The flavors are (in order) chocolate, spice and sour fruit. The burn is spot on but leaves a very drying effect on the palette.
2nd third. Much the same as the 1st. Ash is holding on surprisingly well. Flavors are unchanged with the sour fruit coming to the front. I won't be seeking this cigar out. Though the construction is flawless.
Final third. I intentionally knocked the ash off. It didn't take significant effort, but it didn't just fall off. Again, the construction is impeccable. The flavor is... Not in my wheelhouse. It slowly grows better in the final 2" with hints of honey and spice. The draw remains too loose.
What is it?
