Obsessive humidor reorganization

So my wife and I are headed to Branson tonight after work for my family reunion. I've been thinking about some cigars to bring, and really only narrowed it down to the Liga FFP that I've been holding for about a year, and then I was just going to see what else jumped out at me. I decided to go ahead and pack my travel humi this morning before work, since I didn't think it would take long. I should have known.

Of course, the FFP is buried in the bottom tray in my coolidor, under a bunch of baggies storing fivers and other singles from trades. So I pull all of those out, grab the FFP, and then open up the big 250 count desktop humi to find a couple of cigars. The left hand side is larger cigars, torpedos, toros, churchhills, mostly singles but some pairs. The right hand side of the desktop is for robustos that I have either 2 or 4 of. If there are five or more, they're in a baggie in the coolidor. If I take one from the pair, I have to move the single to the small desktop where I like to keep singles. I'm an engineer, I don't like odd numbers. I made the mistake of grabbing an AVO XO, one of four left. So now I had an opening in the desktop that made me compulsively want to organize.

Oh, those Tats that were in two different trays? They're in one tray now. Padrons - all together in the coolidor. Fuentes? Same tray. The CAO, Punch, and other pairs of toros that were running loose on the right side of the robusto section of the desktop? In pairs on the left side. The sampler pack of five pairs of cigars I had stored in a gallon ziplock in the coolidor? You betcha, now in the big desktop, lined up with the other robustos.

I SPENT FIFTEEN MINUTES DOING THIS AND DIDN'T EVEN PACK MY TRAVEL HUMI BEFORE WORK. Am I the only one that does this?

TL;DR: I have issues. I spent fifteen minutes rearranging my humidors when all I wanted to do was grab about four cigars for the weekend.

I used to keep it organized, but with years of buying/smoking it became a random collection of singles. Now it's mostly brands somewhat grouped together, the beauty of that is you can find some gems every now and again.

Oh the garage is a total mess right now, I'm in the middle of some renovations. Hasn't had a good deep cleaning in over a year. We're actually not living in our house right now, because we're in the middle of relocating. Spending the work weeks in St. Louis, and most weekends home in Peoria trying to get the house ready to sell. I really have no idea where anything is anymore. It's HELL.

The current state of my humidor is distressing. It was well organized for a while (loose cigars were in drawers alphabetically), but when we moved our home office and my wife crafting stuff, I downsized and now everything is crammed wherever it would fit.

I anticipate it will take me a good couple hours to re-organize.


My house/garage used to be clean and organized all the time, closets, junk drawers, sock drawers included. Now I have five kids and live in chaos.

I am very OCD with my humidor... I only have one by the way.

When I purchase cigars, they are automatically given a label with a number on it, which is their inventory ID number. Basically, I use this number to let me know which one is the newest of the bunch. I smoke in the LIFO order, meaning the last cigar to go in is the last that comes out. My wife thinks I am crazy!

I go through mine way more then I probably should.. Problem is I have yet to find a system that I like and when I do (be it by brand, by size, ect) I end up buying some more that throws off the balance.. #firstworldproblems

the only thing that is normal in my storage boxes in the wino most singles in the hummis unless they are spacal then in the wino

I have about 20 something humidors...cooleradors...tupperadors and when I walk by I swear I can hear whispering...when I open it up ....I hear nothing. This only makes my OCD worse when it comes to organizing 3000 cigars.

I do and I don't want your problem. That's not a bad thing right? It's probably not a good thing either. As to the first post, I'm rather OCD myself. I recently just organized mine (it still needs work) and after the latest count am at 73. My tupperdor is completely packed now and while it looks fine to my eyes, my brain can't take the uneven number. So I'll be giving away one or three to my neighbor for his every Sunday golf game.

Yeah, I'm pretty OCD about the cigars. Current count is 371. I organize on an Excel spreadsheet that also lists the price and date I put each one in the humidor. I have an average price listed for all cigars, and my current project is to smoke all of my 2013 stock that falls under that price.

so why do you guys even bother to keep and smoke cigars? the whole idea is to have a cigar and relax,you poor bastards cannot even do that, because then you have to go and update your spreadsheet or realign your stash so that all the long ones are even with all the short ones,or give some away so the number is even or clean out the ashtray, or recount how many bands you have now or refill your lighter so it will be full next time or buy another box because you have an odd number of sticks or turn your cigars so the bands are all straight up or............

It's part of the relaxation bro. What can be more relaxing then some booze, and the aroma of your fine sticks as you rearrange them so they're more comfortable before their inevitable doom

Yeah, my wife calls my humidor rearranging "emotional therapy." I just like to know what's in there. The organization is just a personality quirk. The smoking is the relaxing part.
