Are you using water too or just mojo?
Well on the last batch I only used mojo on the filler to bring up to working case. I did use a little too much and my first batch did need a little watering down. Don't get me wrong, the smoke was very very good and extremely smooth for a fresh stick, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted from this particular blend I have grown so fond of.

So home brewers in the crowd (@BrewinHooligan) will enjoy this, lately I've been doing 2 leaf combinations (smash beer style, single malt, single hop) to understand what a particular leaf will do with a friend. Beers done this way usually turn out great and what I'm finding is cigars do the same! This one is only Ecuador seco and Mata fina in a 1:1 ratio, wrapped in Ecuador ligero.

It's fresh off the table, one week dry box, but tasty! The mata fina is creamy with hints of coffee/espresso, and the seco brings citrus and cherries to the party. This is a fun little experiment to explore leaf in a single variable setting. Plus, you can find some awesome blends that break all the rules!

That ligero wrapper looks delicious and about veinless. Where'd you pick that up? I may order that for my next go round...:)

Scotch is a poor accompaniment to a good cigar. The smokiness of the one murks up the smoke of the other.
Opus angel's share and the double wood i had complemented each other perfectly, each had very light and soft smokiness, delicious together.

I would not smoke an LFD la nox with scotch though, power house smokes would completely muddle scotch

I usually drink water but I felt "highfalutin" tonight.
I like rum. A good rum is a fine mouthwash for a cigar. I found that cause I asked my bro in law, who imports fine French wines, and his son in law, who is a chef at a high toned country club, one night at a family gathering. Their reasoning was, cause rum is tropical, and so are the cigars. That's a tough one to wrap my head around, but it works. I like a good tequila, too. Both good mouthwash for a cigar. Rye works. Bourbon not so much. Scotch not at all.

I think it all depends on your tastes as well as the stick and spirit you are pairing. I enjoy bourbon with a really strong stick, but I'm taking small sips of the bourbon so it is a compliment to the cigar and doesn't overpower. It also has to be a full flavored cigar to hold its own against the spirit. Rum seems to always work, I think it is due to the natural sweetness and the slight spice that almost always compliments a cigar. If you can find Kaniche, it is an amazing sipping rum to pair with cigars and it's around $15/bottle so doesn't break the bank. I feel it drinks well above its pricepoint.

Standard house blend; 1 WLT Criollo Seco, 1 WLT Corojo Viso, 1 WLT Criollo Ligero and wrapped in Jorge EC Shade wrapper. The test is I used LO CT2LS binder. 5.5" x 44. Definitely changes the flavor, only a 1/4" in though, so I'm not sure what yet I think.

Finished the cigar. Overall, I'm happy with it. Significantly different then the same blend then the original Ecuadorian binder from Jorge. Typical non-maduoro sun grown broadleaf flavors of earth and caramel sweetness. If it added any pepper, it was lost to the blend. This binder took some of the stronger Criollo pepper notes, and toned them down and added some body to the smoke, and also added an interesting dimension to the smoke.

As a binder, the leafs are huge, velvety, and have amazing stretch. I was able to get (2) 5.5"x44 cigars from each half leaf. I have a bit over a pound to use, and I plan to use it. Time will tell if I continue to buy it after this supply is exhausted.
