So I was discussing my Humidor rebuild with a non smoking coworker and she asked how many cigars it would hold. I thought about it and at 250 a cubic foot it should hold between 1000 and 1200 according to humidor sellers, but in reality it will be closer to 800. She asked "Will you smoke that many in your lifetime?"

I'm a seasoned gentleman well past middle age so with luck I will smoke another 20 years. I average about 3 cigars a week and I ran the numbers and that comes out to over 3,000 cigars. I've started putting up some cigars that I want to age, my oldest is 8 years and will be smoked soon. My biggest regret is I didn't keep better notes. I once smoked a cigar, Churchill is size blacker than Maduro, and wrapped in a thin white paper sleeve. I went back to the B&M and bought the rest of the box. Some time later I went back and they had never reordered that cigar, I didn't keep any notes or even a band. I do remember something about it being made in Africa. Anyways that is one on the many smokes that I wish I could identify so I could try to acquire again.

So I am keeping a little better notes with the realization that with luck will be buying another 2500 cigars in my life.

I did the math with my smoking cigars since I was the age of 12 and at my age the average is probably around 2 per week for 50 years....at $6 average per stick that would be $624 a year over 50 years = $31,200. My wife wasn't very impressed with that magical number and seems as though she's out shopping for purses and shoes at this very moment.

I did the math for you brother....if you drank domestic ( Lone Star/Bud/Michelob ) at about 2 6 paks a week counting for inflation .......$500 per year over 40 years = $20,000. If you drank Internationally like Heineken or Guinness then adjust that would be about $600 per year over 40 years = $24,000.

Needless to say if you were drinking and smoking cigars you just bought the equivalent of a Mercedes Benz C450 AMG. How does that make you feel?

I drank Lone Star, Coors and Pearl for 20 years back when it was about 50 cents a beer to about a buck for a tall boy at the local stop and rob, so let say average of 7 a week for 20 years or 7,280 for the first 20. Now drinking Shiner and Craft beers at a buck fifty to ten dollars a beer, but far fewer do lets say fifteen dollars a week, or 15,600. Since money was worth more 40 years ago we can basically say that in 2016 money I've spent over 30K on beer in the last 40 years. More than most people make in a year, but less than some spend on hookers and blow for the weekend.

It's all in how you look at things...so far my wife's purses...shoes. ..jewelry. ...haven't impacted my life in a positive way...at all. Cigars and Drambuie has saved me thousands over the last 40 years....haven't visited a therapist ever which has saved me $$$ which more than paid for cigars and booze. Winning!!
