Almost a total newbie here. A buddy of mine gave me a Cohiba Black several months ago and got me started on cigars. I've been trying to learn all I can ever since and looking forward to learning even more. Currently I'm pretty fond of the large ring gauge cigars and really like the Partagas Black Label in 6x60 and a couple from the Gurkha brand. I still have a lot to learn and plan on trying out as many different smokes as I can. Just got my first humidor a couple months ago, it's supposed to hold about a hundred smokes but in reality it's not going to come close. I'm already thinking about a larger setup that will hold several boxes. Thinking about one of the Newair coolers. Anyway, looking forward to talking with y'all. Take care.

I don't know how far West (or South) in KY you are but we have a group that meets monthly for a herf in Cincy. The next scheduled meet is Thursday, July 28 at House of Cigars in Sharonville. We are very welcoming of new BOTLs. Since you are already talking wino, we can tell you about all the stupid crap we bought and discarded. Maybe save you some time and money.

I'm about 15 miles north of the TN state line. Just above Clarksville, TN. If I was a little closer I would definitely join y'all. Thanks for the invite though, I appreciate it. Take care.

Dude, you're close to Hopkinsville, right? That's where Drew Estate holds their Kentucky Barn Smoker event - I was there last year, and it was a blast.

Yep, I'm about 20 miles from Hopkinsville. It's in the next county over. I go there a couple times a week cause there's not even a Walmart in the small county I live in. I had no idea Drew Estate held an event in Hopkinsville. Thanks for the info, I'll definitely check into it. You from this area?

Hey y'all! I'm from Hoptown! Lived there 23 years until just a few months ago when I moved because I joined the military. Yes I love the KFC by Drew Estate. Smoked one tonight when I took a walk around base actually. Did y'all know they are making a candela KFC, it's supposed to be sweet and smokey! I played golf in Todd a few times, at Cherry Grove? I think that's the name of it. Such a small world. Pleased to be apart of this forum.

I'm about an hour west of St. Louis - Hopkinsville is a 5-6 hour drive for me, but the barn smoker event is bigger than any cigar party in the STL area so I made a mini-vacation of it last year. Ticket sales opened early July last year, so I would expect this year's event to open up any day now - here's a link:

The focus of the Kentucky event is on the fire cured tobacco used in the KFC, which is either a "love it or hate it" thing for most guys, and unfortunately I just can't get into the KFC. Still worthwhile though - you get to eat, drink, smoke, and learn about tobacco from JD and crew. And there's a charity auction, proceeds to Cigars For Warriors, I think? Good stuff all around. (y)

I used to go up to St. Louis all the time to the NMRA drag races. Great track up there. Thanks for the info on the Drew Estate event. I'll definitely be there this year. They crazy thing is that they are having it less than a mile down the road from where I used to live. It sounds like a good time. I haven't tried one of their cigars yet but I'll pick up a couple and give them a try. I love the smell of the barns in the wintertime around here when they are firing tobacco though. Let me know if you make it down to the event this year. Take care.
