Kiddin' aside, Gar Brooks, welcome to both BOTL and Alaska...from a fellow Alaskan and USAF veteran. I assume you're stationed at JBER? They never would station me there but I made them outprocess me through Elmendorf when I retired in '99.

JBER is pretty dang sweet. Congrats on the career. I bet you used to give us airmen a hard time didn't you? Just kidding. So you're a true Alaskan? I was hoping to get stationed in Germany or Japan or anywhere foreign haha. But I can't complain brother.

Not too much, I think...except the occasional "exceptional" cases who made things hard for themselves and everyone around them. Otherwise, I worked with a lot of fine folks. I was in avionics maintenance for my first 12-ish years (sensors: A-7D, F-4C/D/E) and spent the last 8 in health care admin, retiring at MSgt.

So you're a true Alaskan? I was hoping to get stationed in Germany or Japan or anywhere foreign haha.

I'm Alaskan by choice rather than birth. I'm a Southern boy: born in Mississippi and being an oil company brat, I moved all over the South until I enlisted in '78 then lived in the South some more...Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, even South Korea. I got stalled on Seymour Johnson due to my career transition and later, high year of tenure. I had to make E-7 to get off the base and when I did, I was on the phone to Randolph weekly, asking for Alaska or Germany. They said no to Alaska again but I can't complain about finishing my career at Ramstein. I loved it over there.

I really appreciate your condensed Air Force story, Master Sargent. Traveling is like a drug to me, and it seems you got your fair share of it. I've heard Seymoure is a busy base. Now, we need to work on changing the AFI to allow us to walk around base in uniform with stogies clinched in our jaws, lol.
