Anyone ever see just bad ratings for cigars? It seems no matter the blend, all or should I say most seem to get good ratings for the most parts. I don't know how some guys are rating sticks that are $60 a box as great, I mean same ratings as Padron's, Fuentes, Tatujua's, etc etc, almost any mid to higher end.. So I ask, anyone ever have a bad smoke because they surely all aren't great.

I've had lots of bad cigars, I think Tito rolled them, actually. He's a nice enough guy, but he sucks at rolling cigars. They also had a very distinct taste of burnt cigar factory. Very unpleasant. Pretty sure halfwheel gave them a 50, too
I think a few things go into ratings like this. First is judging it for what it is at its price point. A stick might not compare well to the market as a whole but when compared at its price range it could be a standout. Something like an El Cobre comes to mind here. Another factor is what people have to base their experience off of. If someone smokes a lot of dog rockets and finally has something a step up then its going to seem like one of the best cigars in the world. If your daily smoke is a Padron 26 or an Opus then you might not be as easily impressed. Theres also the volume and rating quality which skew things even more. A lot of those ratings are based off a very small number of reviews and in many cases people give ratings based on their experience with the vendor, not the actual cigar.
I'll be the first to say theres a lot of stuff I've tried and didn't restock. Even from my favorite brands. Though I do feel like I can tell the difference between a crappy blend and something that just doesn't hit my palate the right way.

Plenty of "bad" smokes with high ratings... Just the other day I tossed a stick that was rated "90" in the sewer before it even got to the halfway mark. It also goes the other way around as well, plenty of great smokes with low ratings. Don't judge a cigar by it's "rating"... imo
It's all in the palette and the person. I've had a lot of cigars at herfs etc. that people were raving about and I thought they were awful. One of the best cigars I used to get was a $5.00 60 ring guage monster at the local B&m I used to work at. It was the store "brand" made by one of the big producers and sold en mass. One you get a lot of sticks under your belt you will be able to pretty much tell no matter the price what kind of smoke it will probably be.
Now, with pipes, I can say I've never had a bad bowl. Some have been awesome, most have been good and some average. But I've never lit a pipe, taken a few puffs and tossed it like a few cigars I've had.
