Just started The Stand. I've been looking forward to this book and I can't put it down. Huge pace change from Tolkien's LOT/The Hobbit.
Im kind of a germ phobe and every time someone sniffles around me I get a weird feeling thanks to this book. I also think somehow I can catch the disease just by reading. Haha

I'm still working on this one. I think the digital age has murdered my attention span. I'll sit down and read two or three chapters and then I won't come back for days.
I recently read "The Forever War." My first real sci-fi book. Loved it! Any suggestions on similar stuff?
Me and my Kindle are good buddies. I like to read several books at once. Right now I'm reading "Hearts in Atlantis" by SK, as well as "The Scarlet Letter" by Hawthorne (never read it in school and I'm trying to read all the classics) and also "Enemy at the Gates" by William Craig.
Amazon is always good with the "Other people who bought this..." and such so I always just explore those and usually find some decent reads. A couple authors I generally like are Vaughn Heppner, Joshua Dalzelle, and Jay Allen. Can't really think of anything specific off the top of my head but there is tons of that style sci-fi focused around a dystopian future out there
For October I went with my favorite horror authors and read The Night Land by W.H. Hodgeson and a handful of short stories and novellas by HP Lovecraft and Algernon Blackwood. So far this month I have read few stories out of the Arabian Nights, Factotum by Charles Bukowski (My first Bukowski, what an unpleasant little man) and am currently reading Ten Nights in a Bar Room by TS Arthur. Now that I have no internet or television at home I have just been devouring fiction. I've even started to write a few paragraphs of my own that I'm not wholly ashamed by. I honestly don't think I'll get internet even when I can afford it again.
I absolutely love everything Bukowski has done. He's my favorite author. There's just something beautiful about all the madness.
It reminded me a lot of Henry Miller. If you've never read the rosy crucifixion trilogy, pm me your address. The character in Factotum at one point boards a bus with a Henry Miller novel under his arm.
It's very interesting going from Bukowski to TS Arthur too, Ten Nights in a Bar Room was a pro-temperance novel written in 1854. Such a stark contrast.

This is better than literally everything in my box (save, perhaps the Le Bijou I'm afraid to smoke). What am i going to do, send you my el cheapo PDRs and JR Cohiba knockoffs? Oh man. Thank you, thank you. You are too kind, and i gotta come up with a way to avenge this!

For you SK fans, I'd recommend his Gunslinger series . The intertwining of his previous work with the world's of Roland and his ka'tet was fun, entertaining , and gripping. I totally enjoyed them over the years as they were published .
I contemplated jumping into this series. I was afraid it would be slow like Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed LOTRs. Just not as much as its hyped. Going from LOTRS to King was a welcomed change of pace.
I love the Song of Ice and Fire series so far so if The Dark Tower series is anything close to that then I'm all in.

The first one he wrote a long time ago, and it's dry. But very good. The second, third, and especially the fourth are my favorite things he's ever written. The last three were so-so in my opinion. I highly recommend the first four. You're on your own after that.
Haha please no return fire, I just got kicked out of my 3rd place in 3 months so not sure what my address will be in a few days. My books are really helping me through tough times though, just read Steppenwolf and Demian and Hermann Hesse is now my favorite author, now reading Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis, an incredibly biting and sarcastic criticism in novel form of hypocrisy in the Baptist and Methodist churches in 1905, written 1927. Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that! What's that all about?
Well there were a few factors to this one, but it all came to a head about his dog. He neglects her physically and emotionally so she started to get really attached to me because i would walk her every day and tell her shes a good girl. So today he threatened to use physical violence unless i stop being nice to his dog, or hell throw my stuff outside and call the cops.
He is the single most ungrateful person Ive ever met, and i was never unkind to him or his dog in any way.
