Humidor RH at 64%

If you're losing humidity, the bovedas would be dry.

64% is just fine.

Rules of humidity:

1. Trust Ara (@sofc)
2. Trust your bovedas. They are more accurate than most hygrometers.
3. If your cigars are smoking the way you like, don't worry about it.
4. Don't trust your hygrometer unless it is a good one that has been calibrated.

Are the bovedas drying out or are they still squishy? If their are that many bovedas in a humidor that small and they're drying out, it isn't sealing for crap. If they're still squishy, your hygrometer(s) are in need of calibration.

I bet once you get the new hygrometer in there it will say your rh is well above 64%, probably above 72%. I'd pull the shot glass of distilled water out and a boveda or two. Leaving 2 in there should be plenty for a humidor that size.

How long have you had the bovedas and shot glass in the humidor? The humidor could still be soaking up the water vapors, which if that were the case it would read low for a while. Then when the wood is happy it'll shoot up, and then you end up spending the same amount of time trying to get it back down to where you want it as you did trying to get up. But 64% sounds prime to me, 63-66 good in my book.

I seasoned it my self because it hasn't been used in about a year and I know he paid about $400 CAD for the humidor and he researches stuff before he buys anything I can be pretty sure it's not a crappy humidor? But it may have a leak I just don't know how to check for that.

I've had it in there for about a week now. Today I took out my smoking cigars for the next couple of days and put them in a plastic container, I also took out the divider. When I did this the humidor shot up from 62% all the way to 67%. I am very confused now. My best guess is that the cigars I have in there are soaking up alot of water because they are dry.

Most wood desktops will never hold the labeled RH of a Boveda. Always a couple points lower just cuz they don't seal perfectly and also just through the wood itself.

I would agree with 2 and 3 more than 1 and 4 because 1 (Ara doesn't care about RH if cigars are smoking well) and 4 (Ara doesn't care about RH if cigars are smoking well.)

I understand that he has a leaky wooden desktop. I don't believe that a 72 boveda will release a higher amount of humidity than a 70 boveda will over a given period of time. I believe it is likely that they give off humidity at the same rate. The difference being that one will stop when the ambient humidity reaches 70 and the other at 72. If the RH in the humidor never reaches 70 because of the leakage, neither will stop releasing and you wouldn't see any difference between the two; however, if the RH does eventually reach the desired 70 one will reach an equilibrium and stop while the other will continue on past the desired RH.

I got my first desktop humidor a couple months ago, fought the humidity for the last two months, finally said "f--- it" and switch to tupperware with Spanish cedar in it.

Exactly right. And if you need cedar, talk to @Genuine
