Okay, not sure if it's me or the cigars. I am finding more cigars that I like now. When I started I stopped a lot of cigars very shortly after lighting them! Not sure if it is me getting use to them, or if my palate is opening up. I am enjoying most of them now, where as in the beginning it was difficult to find one that I really liked. It may be because I have a better idea of what I like, or I am choosing better cigars, whatever the reason, I am enjoying more of them than not. My favorite is the Crowned Heads Luminosa. I have contemplated buying a box, but I am still enjoying new cigars. This way I don't have all of my budget tied up in just one. Today I smoked the Caldwell Eastern Standard (with Coffee) and it was extremely pleasant! Yesterday was Crowned Heads Mason Dixon Southern version 2014. I find the Crowned Heads and Caldwell, very well made, very good flavor, and very consistent. CH I have smoked the Yellow Rose, Luminosa, Mason Dixon, and I have a few more to smoke, Las Calaveras, La Imperiosa, Four Kicks Black Belt Buckle in my cooler. I am working up to some CC's I have saved for special occasion, like Christmas, New Years, and my birthday.
With all of that said, if you are new and struggling to find a smoke that knocks your socks off, be patient, it is out there, you just have to dance with a few more to find what really gets your juices flowing!

The one thing that took me a bit to learn is to not waste money on cheap sticks.

You don't have to go crazy but their is a huge difference between a 3 and 7 dollar cigar. I have tons of cheap sticks that have burn issues, are plugged and are bland because I would buy fivers for $15 when on sale on line.

There's a place for cheap sticks and there are some very good cheap ones. Now there are also a lot of crappy sticks. I have found a bunch of sub $4 sticks that I love and there a bunch of $10+ sticks that I dislike. There are many suggestions and threads on this forum that have some solid cheap stories.

My advice is similar to the post above try a few before you go in buying a box. Samplers and fivers are great.

Thank all of you for your responses! I agree, I will continue buying 2 to 5 sticks at a time and continue to try different kinds. I do find myself returning to the Luminosa. At the same time there are so many cigars out there. I also find myself not concentrating on price, so much as blend, and taste. I really appreciate you on here, that continue to share different cigars and make recommendations. I also appreciate my tobacconist at Habana Port in Metairie and Baton Rouge, they are truly helpful and not really pushing me, just to sell cigars. I went to one shop and they never have what I ask for, and are always pushing "this is the same" so buy this. I find it odd that they don't appear to be keeping up with any of the new offerings and trying to get rid of the stock on hand. I won't be surprised if they go out of business soon. IMHO!
Thanks again for your assistance in my education!

I am glad I bought some cheapies, and i enjoy them. I don't always want to spend a ton of time really appreciating every nuance of every smoke. You've seen the term "yard 'gars?" Kind of like that. Sometimes it's more relaxing to fire up a cheapo and read or whatever, walk the dog, play Mario Run on the phone . And by filling up my tupperdor with cheap sticks, I can take my time finding great deals on better stuff and let that stuff chill for a few months.

I found that after trying a variety of sticks that I really came to love anything from Nicaragua. I stayed mostly within brands from that origin and that still holds true today. I've only enjoyed cigars for about a year now but like you have yet to buy a box. You could always try more from the Domi Repub since you like CH. Though if you were going to buy a box, now is definitely the time for the deals.

For every good cheep cigar I've tried I've smoke nearly ten that were a waste of money. I only smoke 2-3 cigars a week, I don't want to waste the little bit of smoking I do dealing with poor quality.

I guess it really depends on the volume of smoking you do.

I like the $10 sticks you can buy for $4 on sale.

I'm in the same boat. Just getting started with cigars, so we've been getting 2 or 3 at a time to find stuff we like. Difference is I suffer through the ones I don't like because, well that's $8 to $10 I can't bare to waste. Neither can my wallet. Lol. I chalk those up as lessons/punishment. Lol.

Well... what have you enjoyed smoking? Plenty of folks here can offer suggestions based on what you like and don't like

So far I lean towards the smoother, sweeter, creamy stuff I guess. Definately don't like peppery. If that makes sense. Had a Mi Querida while I golfer yesterday that I enjoyed. Also a Perdomo grand cru and a rocky patel evolution the other day that I liked. Didn't much care for the Camacho Criollo I tried.

Creamier huh? Have you looked at anything from crowned heads? You should check out the luminosa for sure. Plus the las mareas, le careme, jericho hill, and four kicks are great. I could go on and on about them. Plus the price point is great on them.

You should also try the chogui.

Or pickup some cc's. Tend to be lighter and "creamy".

Smoke what you like
