Do any of these cigars have anything in common?

Just started smoking cigars a few months ago, and have probably only smoked ~150. Started off with samplers to survey the terrain. What’s a Connecticut, Maduro, Oscuro, etc. I can’t seem to sit still for much over an hour, so I seem to have gravitated from Churchills to Toros to Robustos. (I’ve been smoking one outta each 5er ROTT, so I realize it’s not in-depth. Leaving the rest to hopefully improve in the humi)

Anyway, so far, these are the cigars I seem to like:
Something with 8-5-8 on the wrapper
Cohiba red dot
MC media noche
LGC series R
Nicaraguan 90+ Seconds (my morning read the news smoke before I pick out the smoke of the day)

I seem to prefer flavor over strength, and I like smoothness. Not keen on the cigars that make me feel like I’ve just snorted ghost pepper juice when I retrohale. (Is that what you guys call pepper in your reviews?)

Is there any kind of trend in what I like so far, or do you have any suggestions on sticks of this type?

The 858 I THINK is an Illusione. It sounds like you like a stronger cigar, at least in terms of flavor. Most of those I'm fairly sure are Maduro.

I'm with you on not loving overpowering strength, but along that line is the Oliva Serie V. It's very strong in flavor and power, but also remarkably smooth. The Melanio has a little less strength and is a little less smooth.

Thanks for the reply. I will try the series V. I like milder cigars also, but they don't seem to have as much flavor, but that's OK when I'm preoccupied like golfing. By the way, the 858 is an Arturo Fuente.

This might help you out with the wrapper questions.

Just keep smoking and trying things. You'll eventually find the things you really like and what you don't. Everyone has different tastes. Smoke what you like and like what you smoke.
Another thing to think about is paying attention to the kind of tobacco in different blends, i.e., Corojo, Criollo, Conn./Penn. Broadleaf, etc. Some brands tell you and some just give generic country origins. You'll also notice differences in Nica puros and Dominican puros.

When I first started smoking, I couldn't get my hands on enough Tatuaje. The J21 specifically or the rest of the reserva line. Try the Headly Grange by Crowned Heads. Uhm..... illusione epernay are great and very smooth. As others have said and will mention, the fun is trying everything you can and finding the brands you like best. There are limitless numbers of cigar reviews on this site and there are new ones posted daily. Browse a few of the more recent posts and see if anything jumps out at your flavor profile. Have fun!

The fuente 858, la Gloria series R and Montecristo Media Noche all have Connecticut broadleaf wrappers. The Cohiba has a Cameroon wrapper and I was not able to find out what the Nicaraguan seconds have.

My suggestion would be to seek out other cigars with CBL wrappers if that is what has been hitting your palate in the right spot.

Are all Maduros CBL? I seem to like Maduros and Cameroon. Perhaps, against the mainstream, I might favor Dominican filler, since all my choices appear to have some or all Dominican in them.

No, not all maduros are CBL, maduro is a process which makes the leaf darker. Broadleaf holds up very well to the process though.

The tatuaje reserva lines have CBL wrappers. Plus they're amazing, but definitely more "peppery"

Since you like CBL, check out the Drew Estate Rob Shade 2nds on Monster today. These are Undercrown Shade 2nds, and from the bundle I received last week, they smoke, taste, and are constructed as well as 1sts. The filler is a mix of Dominican and Nic, with a CBL shade wrapper from Ecuador. Very favorable and smooth, with a hint of sweetness. Mild to medium in strength. None of the bitterness you sometimes get in inexpensive CBL shade. Right now my favorite morning smoke. $58 shipped for a bundle of 25, after your BOTLORG discount code.
