Fake CC, but they smoke great! Would you?

Over Christmas time a good friend bought me a box of some clever fake Esplendidos. At the time they were too wet and unsmokable. I tossed em in a humidor for over a month and fired one up last night. My god they were great sticks. The start of em pulled a little hard but opened up after about an inch. I was amazed.

Would you still smoke em knowing they are fakes but smoke good? Or what?

It could have floor sweepings, hair, dirt, ect. I wouldn't trust them. Try dissecting one and see what you find.

The only thing that looks wrong with them is the filler is just shreds in the filler instead of longer leaves. No hair, dust, dirt , or mold.

The difference is a legit manufacture wouldn't intentionally put something in the cigars. Where as someone that is already scamming people doesn't really care what's in the cigars. Personally, I wouldn't smoke fakes, just based on the fact that you have no idea what's in them.

I used to once in awhile when I saw a good fake but a buddy once cut one open and it was full of black mold. That was the end of that journey.

IMO the producer of a fake has lied to you. They consider you a chump, someone to get over on. They have disrespected you. - - Hell no, I wouldn't smoke it.

Not to play devils advocate but there could be floor sweepings, hair, dirt, etc in any cigar you buy...once they get rolled it's hard to check that internal quality. It's a risk we take with all our cigars...I just tend to not think of it. Smoke em if you like em.

By definition of a custom roll, sure, because a fake cigar is a true custom rolled cigar. If you mean a custom roll from Havana or the good farms, as in the popular ones from LCDH rollers or farmers, no way. You have no idea what is in a fake cigar, or where it came from. Not even close to comparing it to a true Cuban custom roll.

That was a generic 'you', directed to anyone who ends up with a fake. Years ago a friend brought back a fake as a gift for me. His intentions were good. I just said 'Thank you for thinking of me'. Never told him it was a fake & didn't smoke it. I didn't want to ruin his pleasure in giving it to me.

There are definitely a lot of unknowns with fakes but they can be great cigars. They can be Costa Rican garbage too I'm sure. Cuba produces a ton of fake boxes, rolled well with quality tobacco so they could be as good as a Cuban custom or farmie. The Socialist oppression created a large black market cigar industry. Now I wouldn't recommend anyone go out a knowingly purchase fakes but in this situation, if they look good and smoke good then smoke em.

If he got them in Havana, and you already smoked one. I would smoke them. If they are from Mexico, carribean, etc then No I would not smoke them.

Agreed. I made the same discovery once in some fake cubans. Made me weary of a lot of cigars.
