After a while the larger ring gauges become cumbersome. Also, as the rg's get smaller the flavors of the wrapper leaf become more prevalent in the smoke. The wrapper and binder is where a large portion of the "flavor" comes from ie, nuts, vanilla, coffee, etc... The sweetness, "woodiness" or earthy profiles. The fillers are what gives it the "tabacco" profiles or the spice, pepper, leathery type flavors. IMHOSo, why do most of you not like the larger ring gauge?
You just hush yoself upHaha. They should go to the birthday boy Ant @wantacigar

Good points. I still like them all. I tend to prefer the spicy, peppery sticks... but enjoy them all for different reasons. I also think that because flavors change with the onslaught of variables - it becomes more difficult to nail down sometimes. I often think there are more defenses than necessary on what people smoke size wise... I think many people do it for image. After a while the larger ring gauges become cumbersome. Widely regarded as such. Had one that was gifted to me by a friend, better than expected but just not my thing. You really have to like this format imo.the best 60rg is a LFD Digger
Cus I can barely get my mouth around it and the profiles are usually washed out.So, why do most of you not like the larger ring gauge?
..that's what she said. Some just can't fit their mouth around it...

Haha thank you..that's what she said.
I couldn't disagree more. The larger rg cigars seem to be created for the new hipster smokers just getting into cigars. Last weekend I was at a casino cigar lounge and every time a group of young 'hipsters' wandered in, wide-eyed and clueless, they ultimately purchased the fattest cigars available and proceeded to sit there with the things clenched in their mouth, puffing away.Size preference is mostly due to how people smoke. In my opinion, the hate for large ring gauges is just sad whining that the cigar market is evolving away from the cigar hipster favorites (i.e. Lanceros and Coronas)
The only real reason to dislike large ring gauges is if you prefer to hold the cigar in your mouth for extended periods of time. This is where 56+ ring gauges become awkward especially as they get longer.
be.
One thing I've heard a few times from guys who smoke only rarely is, well it's only 50 cents more so I get the bigger one, better value! Generally it's not about the smoke it's just about having a cigar and more cigar is more better to them.In my 10 years of this journey (and over 10,000 cigars) I've noticed what Xavier Dredo has. At many get togethers, meetups, and hurfs, it's usually the newer smokers lighting up the monster sticks. Most of the older, more experienced ones gravitate to the smaller, more traditional sizes. JMHO. Of course there are exceptions, and as always, smoke what you like, and don't worry about other's opinions.
Personally, I prefer 52 rg or smaller. Usually robs or coronas. I also, for some reason don't like longer sticks. For something around 50 rg, 5-1/2" max, though I prefer 5". 44 to 46 rg, I'll do up to 6", so that rules out lanceros. Again, just my preference.

As everyone else in this thread has said, smaller rg cigars have a much more interesting flavor profile.
Somehow I have acquired the nickname 'hipster' at my local B&M despite being almost 40 and GenX. I try to not let them know I hate it...pretty sure they know I hate it...Oh no, here come the hipsters again. And for what it's worth, Xavier, when these ridiculous ring gauges started showing up in the nineties, it wasn't the hipster newbs, it was the yuppie newbs. And then the douchebag newbs.
Congratulations!!!! You are the grand prize winner!Good points. I still like them all. I tend to prefer the spicy, peppery sticks... but enjoy them all for different reasons.
