Who enjoys 60 ring gauge cigars?

I couldn't disagree more. The larger rg cigars seem to be created for the new hipster smokers just getting into cigars. Last weekend I was at a casino cigar lounge and every time a group of young 'hipsters' wandered in, wide-eyed and clueless, they ultimately purchased the fattest cigars available and proceeded to sit there with the things clenched in their mouth, puffing away.

As everyone else in this thread has said, smaller rg cigars have a much more interesting flavor profile.
This is just silly whining that the future is being ruined by ignorant and crass youngsters that have no respect for smaller ring gauges. People can smoke whatever they find most pleasing to them and its clear that market trends are not on the small ring gauge lovers side. Yelling, that gordos are Satan and that "real cigar aficionados" only smoke Lanceros/Coronas is sad futility.

I'm going to give them a shot since quite frankly the 52-56 ring gauges has completely won me over. There are too many advantages to the larger ring gauges that cannot be denied (performance, bang for the buck, etc). Its the same with Cello on cigars offering too many advantages over unprotected cigars.

Its may gall, that the majority of smokers are migrating to larger ring gauges but that's called Capitalism and human progress. You can be a cigar luddite railing away at large ring gauges but only your fellow luddites will echo the righteous denunciation of Gordos, millenials, etc.

Pretty soon, I'm going to smoke one of these so called abominations to see what the hoopla is about. If i enjoy the experience then i'll purchase more Gordos; If not, I'll just leave them to those crass and ignorant millenial snowflakes/SJWs:cigar:.

What i find curious is why so many people get their panties all in a bunch when they see Gordos becoming such a hot market trend. Its not like you have to smoke them or that Robustos, Toros, or Torpedoes/Belicosos are no longer going to be manufactured.

Why do the Lancero and Corona junkies lash out when its pointless to rail at the changing vitola preference of the majority of cigar smokers?

Because we, the BOTL, are NOT the majority of cigar smokers. The mere fact that we are on this forum and enjoy talking about flavors, why a cigar tastes the way it does, how to store a cigar to get the best flavor possible, and chasing new releases means we're different.

Most of us don't walk into a cigar lounge, grab any cigar, let alone a Gordo, and light it up. We buy 5ers and/or boxes and let cigars age. We help others try new cigars to expand their palettes and step past the "latest craze" from altadis or general cigar.

So yes, I will rail on "the majority of cigar smokers" as I, and the rest of BOTL, continue smoking my Lonsdales, petite coronas, and lances.

I just don't get why its so offensive that Gordos exist.

I prefer Figurados (Torps/Belicosos), Toros, and Robustos in that order; but the existence of Coronas, Churchills, Gordos, etc don't cause me any angst. Gordos never appealed to me before but the hate directed at them really has piqued my interest.
I picked up a box of Gordos because at ~$21 for a box of 10 i don't see how i can lose. I get to test out the abomination Vitola and if i like them i get the whole box for myself.

The reason so many people join Cigar boards is due to how most people don't smoke cigars. If they do smoke, its cigarettes or weed which doesn't hold much appeal. I've had family members tell me i'm killing myself when i smoke cigars so its sad when i see the vitriol directed at cigar smokers who prefer Gordos. I wish more people smoked cigars so it wouldn't have to deal with the dirty looks so often.

My point i'm trying to make is that people should feel free to smoke whatever appeals to them without getting dirty looks or having to deal with snide comments. The vitola wars are disappointing since what's the point of alienating potential community members?

One thing I've heard a few times from guys who smoke only rarely is, well it's only 50 cents more so I get the bigger one, better value! Generally it's not about the smoke it's just about having a cigar and more cigar is more better to them.
Yep.

Go into a fast food place & you'll see the tendency to 'supersize' - drinks, fries, number of patties, etc. It's ridiculous what's called a 'medium' sized drink today. - -
Back to cigars - - Some of us on the CC side are concerned that these marketing trends will effect the more traditional sizes of future habanos.

Sorry to break it to you but it already has, take a look at how many 52+ RG cigars that have been introduced by Habanos S.A already.

Yep, I know that. And the HUPC goes away.

If there is actually any real possibility that the Cuban embargo would be lifted, you'd think that they would take the lead rather than let some NC makers marketing to the noob 'bigger is better'/the Next Big Thing crowd do that.

I'm confused, has someone on this board directly attacked someone for liking gordos? No. In fact, the gentleman above sounds like he's receiving an mfr as we speak. So what is your point? And why do you think you can accuse these brothers of doing so?

We are BOTL. We do not attack someone for smoking something different. Period. But the tastes of this board as a whole leans heavily away from the Gordo size.

IMO - part of the fun of this endeavor is having such discussions. We're dealing with grown men (and a few grown women). I don't assume they will break down in a flood of tears if they hear a different opinion than their own. Special Snowflakes need not enter the debate.

I've often re-examined my own opinions when presented with a well presented argument.

Reading other people's comments it seems to be that people are afraid that the continued and increasing popularity of Gordos is going to continue the decline of smaller ring gauge offerings. I never really noticed how relatively rare lanceros, lonsdales, and even coronas have become in new offerings.

Since i'm not a lancero and corona junkie i never really noticed the shift. I noticed how cigars where getting fatter but didn't give them much thought since i thought it was a great market trend. As Robustos, Toros, and Torpedos started getting fatter i just viewed it as getting more bang for my dollar.

It does seem that the 50 ring gauge Robustos are starting to take the place of Coronas. Its incredible but Churchills are starting to look like Lonsdales to me.

I just hope that Gordos start getting box pressed so that it influences the market to provide me with chunkier box pressed offerings at the 52-56 ring gauge that i find more desirable:cigar:.

Like i said, not hating on the 60 ring gauge if thats your thing. Its just not my preference. I was just trying to give away a few cigars that someone else would enjoy more than i would..... no shots fired here.

Its not my preference i just didn't get the hate until reading people's comments gave me the insight. The dislike is mostly due to the market shifting hard towards larger ring gauges and in turn reducing the amount of smaller ring gauge offerings.

I still think the 50 ring gauge and the Robusto is going nowhere even with the incredible increase in the popularity of the Gordo.

I trust him but i also think he makes half of the stuff up. Or maybe not, but i can smoke the same thing as him and not have nearly the same taste experience as him. Palates are different, and I think to an extent we taste what we're looking for. I'm certainly not on his level, that's for sure.
