So I smoked my one and only MdT yesterday and for the 1st 2/3 really enjoyed the stick and was convinced I would be ordering more. Abruptly, as the final third began it turned earthy - which I normally like, but it also lost the other flavors that I was enjoying so much. On top of that, it developed a slightly bitter note. I tried purging and burning off the ash, which helped a little, but not nearly enough and had to pitch it. I have some theories about this and would like to hear your feedback.
1) That's just the way this smoke is (the just bite it theory).
2) It's just young, that will change with age (the CC theory).
3) It was a little wet (the I just got it and couldn't wait theory - although I did dry box it a couple days, albeit with some other fresh sticks).

If you can, pick up a 5-er and try again. Smoke one ROTT (right off the truck), then see how the others turn out over time with a little rest. I wouldn't base my opinion on just one. It could've been a dud which happens from time to time.

I have smoked thru 3 so far and I wasn't impressed. They have been terrible. But some people have had better luck with theirs

Tried one rott and a the rest were after 30 days rest. Still booty.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the Maestro Del Tiempo. The 6102R is the best of the three sizes because it has the medio tiempo leaf (grows above the ligero leaf on only roughly 10% of tobacco plants, gets the most sun, and is the most intense) that the other two do not have. But the 5205 and 5712 are still excellent smokes. We stocked up early on all three sizes, so they have been aging for ten months since delivery. I am betting your #3 (too moist) is the issue, because bitterness should not be part of the experience.

I really enjoyed the 5205. Sorry to hear you didn't. Give it another go. Could have been a bad rolling day.

I actually prefer the 5205 to the LE version. It's not as strong, but has better balance.

I'm going to say it was likely too wet, but without knowing where you got it and how long you've had it and how it was stored, it's hard to say.

Solution: Order a five from @PuroCigar, and let them rest for a couple months, and give them another shot.

Thanks guys, I got it in the warped sampler from small batch and only had it 2 days. I figure I will give one another shot after longer proper storage. It didn't seem too wet from the start, and I don't fault a fresh stick for a little bitterness at the end, I was more disconcerted about the loss of flavors and dominance of the earthiness.

Wow, I didn't expect a response from the producer. I've already got a couple on the way, so I can give this stick a fair shake. With any handmade product, some inconsistencies can exist, and there are so many variables - could also have been a palate thing (still retraining myself on NCs, lol). Just checking for similar experiences or reasons so it doesn't happen to me again. I've never had a stick swing so abruptly, or drastically before. It went from one of my favorite NCs to not smokeable.

Always great to hear about the experience everyone has with the blends! I validated a few different productions ranging from the last few months and had no noticeable drop offs in the final third, everything was smoking consistently. I am sorry if you had a bad experience but please keep me informed it happens again when you get around to smoking again!
