So you'd be okay with people coming in and just smoking stuff while you pay the rent/taxes/maybe even provide drinks?
Not to mention all the work done to keep the proper RH. :)
Most people feel awkward just sitting there and chances are they will buy. Also that sq footage wasn't making money before now it is. I also don't believe in providing alcohol, I like BYOB. But yeah, I think a shop must have inventory and ambiance to succeed.

**In addition** I feel like having the option may hurt a little, but NOT having the option is just money walking out the door. JMHO

I like the idea of a public side that anyone can come into, buy any cigar, sit down and enjoy a smoke. Then you have a private lounge in the same store that gets you a locker, maybe some drinks, snacks, discount, and a quieter setting.
That comes at a cost as well though because the owner is now paying expenses for a larger space.

A good cigar lounge handles everything on a case by case basis and also offers good communication. You get people that slack and buy shit smokes and take up space but you just talk to them if it's an issue. Paid lounges are great but you should be able to get some slack and come to an agreement if you like.

If lounge owners have an attitude they are the first ones to get shit on. I come to a lounge to get away from bullcrap not be in it. I also want to smoke with my friends whether they are a member or not. That's why communication and case by case basis is best.

@Mossome I still don't like paying $9 for any cigar that's only worth $5 but I will gladly pay $15 for one that's worth $15. LOL :jawdrop::jawdrop: I am notorious for smoking "shit cigars" because that's what my budget allows me at times. The lounge I went to about a month ago don't have $4 shit sticks. They have $4 shit sticks they charge $8 for. ;);) Each business owner has the right to set whatever rules they want for their own businesses and make those decisions on what's best and profitable for that business. If a lounge has a $20 minimum to sit then it's my decision to stay or go and that decision is based on whether I think the service provided is worth the charge. I just enjoy the company and smoke.

Oh, and BTW, If I go to a lounge, it must allow bring your own food :LOL::LOL: I hate running back and forth to the car to eat a cannoli

One thing I have not read in this thread ia what happens here. We are a small town and have 2 choices. 1 is a literal tobacco shop with a walk in humidor and decent selection ( which includes a couple $10 Opus) and no lounge.
The other is a loinge that is by membership. However, you can buy a day pass for 5 bucks and buy your stick and sit back and enjoy the lounge. He does not have a walk in and the selection is pretty limited but he is still trying to improve that.
In my opinion, it is the owners prerogative to do things a certain way. But if you turn away business, even 4 buck business, you are still sending cash out the door.

The young man behind the counter said that the lounge is only available if I bought "several" cigars. Kind of got this quizzical look on my face and chuckled. He said the lounge is for his boss and his bosses' friends. It's advertised on Cigar Aficionado and their website as a smoking lounge.
I was just looking to enjoy a smoke before going home and watch a bit of news. I guess I can scratch that place off my list
What shop was this?
