Hello, my name is William and I'm an addict! I'm relatively new to cigars and it's only getting "worse". I really started collecting cigars last fall when I bought my first humidor, a 50ct. Seasoned that and all went perfectly...until I filled that in a week. I then ended up adding a much larger humidor, a 150ct. Seasoned that and it went perfectly as well. Very quickly filled that. Then I started buying boxes of cigars. Now, I bought a third humidor and needed a fourth before I even received it. Things have been going really well up until two weeks ago when I made stupid errors on this. The first error was trying to find a way to cool my humidors. I new in New England and it's started getting hot. I don't have a/c and wanted to keep the temps down. I put an ice pack new the humidor and it cause a bunch of condensation on the inside. It was there for long, so I caught and cleaned it up. Everything seemed fine after that. My next error was in the seasoning of this third humidor. I was a little impatient with it and have been fighting humidity issues, only compounded by the high humidity in my condo. I'm hoping these will be resolved now. As of yesterday, the humidity was reading 74 when I put my sticks in there. I added about 4 boveda packs (large ones) for approx 40 cigars. Additionally, I've installed an a/c and have dropped the temps in my place as well as reduced the humidity somewhat in my place.
Now the kicker is that I found a tiny bit of mold on two sticks yesterday. I was heartbroken. On one there appeared to be a very dark/black area where four tiny white spots appeared. I decided to toss that one. The other, a special (to me) cc had a tiny bit on the shoulder. I brushed that off and have decided to go through and clean these with some everclear (it should evaporate quickly and not moisten the cigar.
At this point, I'm not sure how to proceed further. A wineador will be in the near future. I will be selling this place in about a month and moving to a house. Once in the house, I will immediately purchase a wineador. Until then, I have no space.
I would love help on what to do about this mold and good ways to reduce humidity now that's it's warm out. I had none of these issues originally but now it seems to be snowballing on me.
This is what drove me here.
