Never realized the cost of the Box?

Kind of surprised at what the cost of the box adds to the final cost of a cigar. There is a mention of manufacturers beginning to sell "refill" bundles so the B&M or maybe even the end user can reduce costs by reusing existing boxes.

Would you be willing to purchase your higher quality i.e. more expensive cigars in bundles? Does the thrill of opening a fresh box of cigars justify the additional expense? Would you change the way you rest cigars?

I don't mind paying a higher price for the boxes. I love my Behike 52, Montecristo Dantes 2016, Punch 48, MDO no 2, Ramon Allones XXL and Portages 898 boxes.

I don't know if you've ever seen a varnished cuban box, but theyre pretty sweet.

But i wouldnt pay a higher price for a varnished NC box.

Cost is usually $5 more per box over the bundle. So depending on the retailer's mark-up, possibly $10 more at retail.
I'd save the money on the bundle. But I do get wanting the box from a collector's perspective. I have heard from many customers that they prefer aging their cigars in the box (stored in the humidor, of course).

Depends on factors like...How nice is the box? How often do I smoke that brand? If I alr have boxes from a certain stick might choose bundle over box. My question is consistency. I feel that boxes keep a stick better than cello bundles.

Yeah, I've seen this most often with things like The Oscar from Leaf by Oscar. It comes in 11-count boxes that are styled to look like cigar presses, so it saves a good bit of inventory space to order refills by the 20-count bundle, rather than the 11-count box.

B..But muh marketing... how else will manufacturers like Gurkha let the consumer know they are the makers of the World's Finest Cigar(TM)? I thought big, fancy bands and obnoxiously large, irregularly-shaped boxes meant the cigar *had* to be great... /s

As a general statement I hate packaging on anything. It's so wasteful and costly. I could for for sure go without the boxes. I just end up stacking empty boxes until I have a cigar box bonfire.

Personally, I think boxes are pretty awesome, they are perfect for storing the cigars and separating them as well. Once I am done with the box I use them to store pre-1982 pennies, silver coins, and foreign coins I have collected. They are great for storing trinkets and other crap like that. Would I like the cost to go down on my cigars? yes, but to be honest I think the real reason cigars boxes were initially built is to protect the cigars in transit. If we went to just bundled, I bet you cigar factories would take a larger hit for damaged cigars, inadvertently causing a price increase, so you would probably get hit either way. As for the bands, to me they are such a little part of the cost, I would rather have something identifying what a cigar is then me trying to label each of my cigars.

Personally I think I can reload old boxes if I can buy refills in bundles. I like to keep the bands.

I like the boxes as it's like Christmas time when you get to peel off the wrapper and get all excited about the contents. As long as the pricing isn't stupid for the box I'm ok with them...esp. the Cohiba Boxes, Opus and others.

I don't have huge storage humidors so I usually remove my cigars out of the box. I do like the feeling of cracking open a box when I buy them though. If I were able to save anywhere from $10-$15 on an unbanded box vs. buying a a box with banded cigars, I'd go the bundle route though.
