yesterday morning, July 4 @ 0525, my friend and radio car partner 217 years ago, passed away. He went into complete organ failure, due in part to his severe drinking problem. He was a friend, mentor, coach and one of the most intelligent cops I ever had the pleasure of working with. He is the kind of man that would have given you the shirt off his back. He was not alone when he passed as one of his former trainees and one of his deputies that he supervised by his side. I can tell you that once it was learned Mark was ill, he had around he clock visitors and someone was always with him. I know I spent hours talking ith him, praying with hm and talking to those at the hospital that came to visit him. 
It was Nice to hear the stories from his friends, deputies, coworkers, military folks, high school folks and even from those he spent time with at his local bar.
Mark was a retired sergeant from my department, a retired US Army major (reserves) that was called back to active duty for 3 tours. It is fitting that he passed away on our nations birthday.
As you go through this week and have the opportunity to raise a glass and enjoy a cigar, please remember my friend in your thoughts. Although I am sad because Mark was responsible for his illness, I am joyful that he is in heaven smiling down upon his family and friends. God bless you Mark, we got this now.
