Im pretty new to cigars. Bought a few samplers and what I smoked out of the random samplers i gravitated to getting a few Oliva samplers. Enjoy the O, G, Connecticut reserves, V. Really liked the master blend 3 too. Got a 5 pack of AVSG and really like them too. Tried a Montecristo sampler and every one i had I didnt mind but they were still kinda blah to me. Most of the others outa the smaplers ive tried have been either ok or not liked.

Ive been trying to smoke while keeping the "cigar flavor wheel" in mind(thanks tadpole for that suggestion) or other reviews of what ever im smoking at the time and I can still only pick out 1 or 2 notes but that has helped.

So with that information any recommendations for a total noob to try? Or need any other info to narrow things down?

Thanks brothers :)

Well, Oliva is always a good call, as youve found out. I would highly recommend Tatuaje series P, also known as the white lable. They are very cheap, but very good. From there I would recommend anythjng else by Tatuaje. CAO Brazilia...

Your initial cigar experience is the same as most of us. Flavor identification comes with experience. I suggest you concentrate on just finding a cigar you like and enjoy. With time you will learn why you like the cigar and be able to more fully appreciate the nuances. You seem to like all the Oliva cigars so you have a pretty good range. When you look at the on-line reviews and read the forum you may concentrate on medium body to med/full bodied cigars.

A good place to start out if you haven't signed up already, check out the BOTL newbie trade, chat with a veteran forum member and earn some trade credits. That should help you. Also, check out the today's smoke thread to see what we're all smoking and currently enjoying.

You've joined in at an exciting time in the cigar industry in which there are plenty of great brands and with an ever expanding porfolio of lines to try. Of course, what someone else would recommend might not be your cup of tea. Having said that, I'd recommend the Chogui Dos 77, Warped La Colmena, Warped Don Reynaldo, Warped Flor del Valle, Tatuaje Capa Especial, Liga Privada T52 and No 9, Foundation El Gueguense, and the Illusione Epernay as sticks to try out.

Thanks for the recommendations, it gives me some things to try that are probably closer to what I like. So many choices within quality brands its easy for a noob like myself to get overwhelmed. Thats one thing that interested me about cigars but also intimidates me. Sooo many choices. Part of the fun though, trying different things.

Agree with most of these.

My one bit of advice would be to not listen to people that tell you to buy crappy cigars so that you can develop your palate. Start with the good stuff especially since you can get so many good cigars cheap now.

I agree with all of Master Shakes recommendations, solid stuff. Drew Estate is where I found most of my favorite stuff when I first started smoking. The Nica Rustica is pretty full bodied, but I think the flavors are very distinct and easy to pick out. Try the Ashton classic white label Maduro as well, overwhelmingly tastes like chocolate. Very smooth cigar though, no spice at all. Check out Romacraft if any shops near you carry their cigars. The intemperance, cromagnon and Aquitaine are super good and very reasonably priced.
