I only ordered a sample of the CT Maduro so didn't get much practice with it but with the veins as big as they are, I removed them. Of course the center rib was removed right after casing, then I took out sections as needed for wrapping. This means you have to plan an overlap but it's not too difficult and you wind up with a vein less wrapper.

HOW TO GET THE WRAPPER FLAT AND SMOOTH? Envy you guys showing off shiny sticks.

Back to rolling today, since I left home for an intern two months ago. Again I challenged CT Maduro from LO. It's thick, veiny and rough on surface, so I "cased" it by soaking it into water and then try to stretch it as flat as possible. Pics following are the results, a 40*4'. Still very unpleasant.

Am I too bad at preparing wrapper or is it simply useless?
That's probably as smooth as possible with that wrapper, unless you start using some kind of press to flatten the crap out of it. Your technique looks fine: what you need is wrapper-quality wrapper leaf. Think "shade."

I mean, even commercial guys don't get shine or complete flatness with CT Broadleaf

I'm gonna be one of the few here that will tell you that ct broadleaf is really not that bad to work with. The trick is figuring it out. I have no issues getting it flat and shiny, but there are tricks for sure. It takes at least 24hrs to bring up to case, then after removing the midrib I pre-stretch the leaf before wrapping. When cutting the leaf for wrapper, my wrapper piece is no more than 2" wide in order to straighten the vein as I wrap the bunch and I'm only using the portion with the thinnest vein at the edge of the leaf. When properly cased the broadleaf will stretch an unreal amount compared to other wrapper leaf.

Lol you and your broadleaf! I'm just content shoving it into the bunch ;)

I'm not sure I did tons or kilograms of stretching yesterday. But I'm sure that, I stretch, it contracts, lol
Yeah with that leaf you almost have to get it to the breaking point for the veins to straighten out. Needless to say I have not purchased that leaf again. I use it for scrap sticks. E shade ligero is much better in taste and to work with.

Use your third hand: a paperweight. See my beginner rolling vid for how.

Am I the only one who uses a third hand? Seems elementary to me. Prevents that leaf from contracting until you want it to.

This Uppowoc Maks:

was so good that two and a half hours later I went ahead and burnt my fingers on the nub. Flavorful, mellow, and entrancing. Dom seco, viso, & olor, bound in CT habano and wrapped in Mata Fina. Well worth both the making and the waiting.
Where does one procure this CT Habano of which you speak?
