Winston Churchill Movie ‘Darkest Hour’ Viewers Find Strange Smoking Warning At The End

The warning contained in the credits:
WARNING: “The depictions of tobacco smoking contained in this film are based solely on artistic consideration and are not intended to promote tobacco consumption. The surgeon general has determined that there are serious health risks associated with smoking and with secondhand smoke.”

Hugo Vickers, a Winston Churchill biographer, noted the Darkest Hour’s smoking disclaimer omitted one crucial fact.

“Perhaps they should have added a line, ‘Sir Winston Churchill lived to be 90.'”

It’s a great debate point but utterly there to incite a conversation. That would be an assumption however.
I know Breathing air today is toxic. People die constantly of everything. Everyone has a choice. I smoke cigars dip snuff and smoke pipe tobacco. Guess I shall enjoy my end doing so.

My Grandpa lived to 96. Got cancer of the tongue and had most of at removed at 63. The whole time that I knew him he was always chewing, snuff, pipe or cigs and his cigs of choice were Pall Mall or Camel and always no filter. Between his Swedish accent and the fact most of his tongue was gone I never really understood a darn thing he said.

Notice their point about not promoting tobacco consumption. However, there is the promotion of war (previously mentioned), use of guns (and other deadly weapons), mass consumption of carbon-based fuels, gratuitous violence and other things/concepts/ideas deemed inappropriate modern behaviors. If this is a new trend we will have disclaimer sections longer than the movie.

Did it ruin your day tho?

I mean... who really watches movies past the end and into the credits?

It’s not that serious.

Tobacco products on tv have always been bad juju.

This whole thread is political...... Anti Smoking sentiment is, in its very nature, political.

I don't know why anyone is getting offended or upset. I simply shared my opinion. No one said you had to reply to me.

Political section was closed a long time ago

And rants like the OP lead to shenanigans like the post you made

Which then leads to arguments that aren’t needed here

This isn’t Facebook

No rant intended, all I had was a reaction to observing the disclaimer in the movie. Yes, I was surprised to see what was very similar to the Surgion General tobacco warning on a movie that wasn’t about tobacco.

Then I read that others reacted the same as me. Apparently, a movie rating of PG-13, wasn’t good enough.

Sorry to have bruesed any fragile sensibilities.
