I just got a full box purchase in the other day, tossed....er....gently placed them in the bottom of my tupperdor, watched the humidity jump to 70-71% over the past few days. I have about 60 sticks in it currently (very full) and 3 large 65% boveda packs. Do you guys dry box new purchases before adding to your humidor? Just curious on all your opinions on this.

i pull my ccs for the following week on fridays usually and throw them in a dry travel humi for 3-5 days. I don't dry box full boxes tho, they sit at 65%.

I do pre cut some sticks as soon as they arrive tho. To see how the construction is and draw

Yea, it can take upwards of a month to fully acclimate properly. I like buying singles and 5'ers from specific retailers because they ship with small boveda packs. This helps speed the process up, especially if the package only takes a day or two to get to me. Otherwise, with a box, I wait 2 or 3 weeks and light one up to check on them. Most of the time, it's too early. Hardest part of buying new sticks is the waiting. :arghh:

I figured as much; thought I'd ask anyway. I wasn't planning on lighting one up for at least a month, but curiosity got the best of me. I've come to realize that smoking cigars boils down to 3 things: money, patience, and whatever IT is, don't overthink it.

if it is NCs,I open the foot of the cello and let the cigars sit out on a dresser for 4 to 8 days, slowly drying from the foot.
big RG stuff or long sticks may need longer.
when they are near target % I stash them.
Dry boxing is for those who age at a higher % than they like to smoke.
Generally I find this is 65 % to age, and 60 to 62% to smoke for CCs.
I age at 60 to 63% and smoke at this level.

That is a unique idea, now do you put them back in Celophane or store then naked? What do you do with the one that don't draw for elcrapo? Draw tool, or just toss em?

So you only smoke CC's, do you find that draw better with time?
What do you mean “draw better”

I don’t run into draw issues. That whole “draw issue” complain is spread by people who don’t even smoke Cubans

I just cut the caps so they breathe as they rest. Just a thing I like to do that others don’t

I asked the question because I have never ever had a whole box of CC's, just a stick or two now and again.

Honeslty I am just afraid of buying from some source, and have U.S. Customers Service confiscate my purchase, being in the red with no Cigars, and as visa bill charge. I know not everything get past the good people in our Custom Service.

Seizures are part of the whole taboo that goes with ordering Cubans

I’ve lost a few boxes as most Lcdh’s won’t guarantee anything

But it’s a risk you have to accept depending on the vendors
