I have a collection I have been working on for 50 years or more.
Back in the day, I spent my allowance on cigars for my dad so I could have the bands, and I was always searching the sidewalks, gutters ,and ashtrays for them.
Probably not many 14 year old boys buying cigars back then, but no one really got upset about it.
Once, at a drugstore, I saw a big box of old, dried out cigars, and paid a nickle each for the ones I wanted, so I could get those bands!
Fast forward to today, and I still save bands.
here are a couple of pics of some of them.....DSC_0064.JPG DSC_0069.JPG

I've been saving bands for years now, but still haven't actually done anything yet. I figure the day after I finally toss them all is the day I figure out what I want to do with them.

Some of my bands the one I save for myself, are stored in a handmade wood box on my dresser. It was picked up when he was a Merchant Marine prior WW-II in the Dominican Repulbic.

Willem is a Dutch company, most of these are European bands, some as old as the 70s.
Some are Canary Islands, etc.
The idea was to make a series of bands to encourage collectors to keep buying until they got the whole set,and then they would re run the same pics with a different color of border.
Willem got creative, making their sets huge, some were birds, flowers, butterflies, mushrooms, national flags, etc.
each set had 225 bands, and each box of 10 cigars had ONE band in it.
This is a complete set of coats of arms of countries, all different.

This is very cool. My dad collects stamps, and is part of the Philatelic Society. Is there a similar organization for cigar band collectors? I found Ephemera Society, but they seem to have a broader scope than cigar bands, seals, and labels.
