That is the coolest room ever! Is it in an interior room of the house? Or outside?A few days ago I sorted out my leaves : small - big - damaged
Now that all my tobacco is at the same humidity I found out that some ligero leaves which are blackish (over fermented) stay crisp.
When you bunch them i'm sure they will crack from the binder pressure.
I'm think that they are also responsible for the bad ash forming so i tossed them away.
I tried to make a puro of it but it's hard because the condition of the leave. It had a bad, sour acid taste.
Ok that is awesome. Crappy if it floods... but that is fantastic! My house is build on 10 ft columns (white in pic.) because I live on the border over a river
I enclosed 4 columns to make the bodega and filled it with cedar shelves

A good point we need to recognize and, the reasoning behind doing so....The wrapper is not 100% fermented. I checked with some farms and it never is.
It is the cigar producer who does the final fermentation. ....
So great!View attachment 121408 View attachment 121409
First shipment arrived ! Hands of wrapper below, filler on top.
Indeed, there is slight faint of raisins smell with the rappers, especially with the ligero.
Next holiday, I'll ferment it more !!
I was thinking that you go twice as fast in a fermenting chamber then with pillones.
It is mostly the inner part that gets decent fermenting.
I ordered a temperature controller and a heating pad that can be moistened.
Sunday I travel to Estelli to buy a few hundred pounds. They will tell me nothing on the phone what is available.
I know they have also farms in Ecuador, so I hope to buy also Ecuadorian wrapper !
The end game is to age the filler tobacco to perfection and fermeting the wrapper/binder a second time.
Then I will start producing cigars for selling on the local market (golf clubs - better restaurants and hotels)
Man, I hope you have very good security. Would suck to get all that stuff stolen after all your expense and hard work.Installed the AC in the bodega and did a test run. I was surprised about the strong tobacco smell at the AC outlet so I stopped it.
Having this for 2 years will not benefit my tobacco. The tobacco was just piled on the shelves.
So I start storing it in carton boxes. By doing this I can store even more tobacco.
Filled already 20 boxes but will need 20 more.
Later on I'll install cold insulation panels to reduce the electricity bill but have problem finding them down here.
