I realized today that I have never had a martini, not shaken nor stirred! I am going to have to change this. My job was one that if I received a dui, I would lose my job, so for nearly 40 years I didn't drink hard liquor, I would drink a beer now and then and never at company functions. Now that I am retired I have been exploring liquors, My buddy in Houston has been educating me on liquor, my first Scotch was Talisker 18 year, I now have more liquor in my house than all of my life. I also have Willet Rye, Jameson Irish whisky, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Kirkland 18 year Scotch from Sherry Cask aged. So when I visit Phil, I'll have to bring up martini's if not sooner. PS Phil also reintroduced me to cigars!

If you like olives, try a Beefeater, extra dirty.. if not, try Bombay Saphire, clean. Personally, I'd prefer a Gimlet, extra dirty, or a Manhatten. Good luck! Lol

Phil and I have been friends since grade school, so not sure how this will play out, but Al you know me, not much of a drinker for sure!

For the record, none of the above drinks should have fruit in them.
I disagree
  • Whiskey/Bourbon/Scotch Neat - absolutely no fruit. Not up for debate.
  • Old Fashion - I do not want to see an orange peel and/or a freaking cherry floating in mine. I'll send it back every time.
  • Manhattan - this better be stirred and not shaken. I will allow an orange twist but again, keep the cherry on the ice cream sundaes.
  • Martini - again, only stirred and no fruit. Just an olive or two.
  • Water

I'm not normally big on fruit in drinks but, my favorite old fashioned's have amarena cherries in them.

Brandy old fashioned requires a cherry.
Manhattan requires a lemon twist.
Martini (not a dirty martini) is preferred with a lemon twist. Depending on the gin/vodka. Any more than a twist, and it's a screwdriver.

I don't like brandy old fashions - I prefer bourbon and again, no fruit.
I actually meant lemon twist in the Manhattan. I think I was so mad about people putting orange peels in the old fashioned that I typed out orange peel instead of lemon peel for this one. haha

So you’ll allow an orrange twist on a Manhattan ...

You just lost the argument!

If you don't like brandy in your old fashions, then you don't like an old fashion.
