Van Camping?

Now that I have a great deal of free time I'm thinking of trading the tent for a long base, high roof van. I believe a couple of modifications will make it a practical alternative to a popup or RV.

Anybody do this? I can see some real advantages as far as being able to pull into a campground or rest area and being able to get some sleep without having to make camp.

40+ years of backcountry. I felt the same way until I hit 60 when the recovery time from sleeping on the ground in a wet tent started getting longer then the vacation.

Lmao, yeah. I’ve been going with my pops for the last 25 years. Now that he’s hit 70 we’ve revised our trips. Our last few years have been canoe camping. Great compromise. You can bring as much weight as you want but still get the backcountry feel after paddling a couple hours across a lake or down a river. Best of luck finding that right solution to comfort with the adventure of nature.

I would look at a “Scamp” pull behind. Can easily be pulled with a car and has some off the grid capacity if that is what you want. I had a friend buy one recently and loves it.

I appreciate the feedback but I'm trying to avoid a tow behind or any type of single purpose vehicle. IF I do this right I can convert the van to camping use prior to a trip with modular furniture and then return it to "old fart going to grocery store use" when I get home.

HeHe wife will have to understand that a "Cigar Smoking Allowed" sign will be hung in the van. I'll probably put a 12 volt vent in the roof so it shouldn't get too bad, even when closed up for the night! Now that you got me thinking...... where should I put the liquor cabinet.....
