So as I sit here enjoying a cigar on a beautiful day here in Southern California, a few thoughts and questions are going through my mind.

First, I up to this point have smoked my cigars after I get off of work, enjoying the quiet of the night, limited to maybe one or two smokes since I do have to get some sleep. But now, as I smoke this one earlier in the day, I have to ask. How do you keep yourselves from just smoking one after another, after another. This is just too perfect, so right, that I just want to keep on smoking. I've got other things to do, places I will eventually need to be, but no, I just want to stay right here and puff, puff away. Brothers have warned me, beware of the pull of the cigar. It will consume you, eat you alive. Well indeed it has, and I don't want it to stop. This isn't a cry for help, just an announcement, an announcement that I have the cigar bug and I am a willing participant.

Second, not only are the cigars addictive, so is this great meeting place called BOTL. I can't get enough of seeing what everyone is smoking, how everyone enjoys this great hobby. As a noob, I know I am preaching to the choir, but enjoy this brothers. Enjoy the time to get away from the stresses of life, the stresses of work, and take in how beautiful life can be. At work, I deal with the worst of humankind, murderers, gang members, drug dealers, and it can become overwhelming. But to be given this gift of enjoyment, enlightenment, being able to open my eyes to all the great things that life affords us, is immeasurable. I look forward to spending time on this site with all of you brothers, and hopefully meet some of you in person some day as well.

Thanks for reading, hopefully I didn't just take a few minutes of your day that you can't get back, lol. Have a great holiday weekend with your families and friends everyone and enjoy those cigars!

Nice post Joe. I know how you feel. I have a stressful job and cigars are a great way for me to unwind and end my day. Gives me time to reflect on the successes and failures of the day so I can do better tomorrow. I limit myself to one a day normally as I do not have time for more before I have to hit the rack. Weekends are a little different. Sometimes I’ll have 3 or 4 Ecspecially if I’m doing yard work or hanging with my buddies that smoke also. My budget plays into it as well. Having a kid in college isn’t cheap so I look for good deals where I can find them. I like you look forward to my end of day smoke and to check in and see what’s going on with my BOTL’s.

Work, parenting, home ownership, adult responsibilities in general are what stop me from smoking all day... most days. The occasional day where I can smoke all day is a beautiful thing; I try to do it once or twice a year
No doubt. I have all those responsibilities as well and I have my priorities straight. I just wish I had discovered the joy of cigars sooner, haha.

Decent thread @WestCoastIPA....

You'll find a balance for your self. I personally smoke 1-5 a day depending on life. I have also taken up home rolls to offset cost, plus it's fun as hell. Also smoke a pipe when driving, on weekends, or as needed. Pipe is also pretty enjoyable and if you don't have PAD, than it's pretty cost effective as well. Pipe also smokes quicker if no time for a stick.

Nice post @WestCoastIPA . I smoke one cigar a day on the way home from work . I can finish up on the porch. But on weekends, if I smoke one early enough in the day, I'll burn another later.
I've heard stories about guys that go camping for the weekend chain smoking stogies or whatever the situation.. ... and they "burn their pallet out". Which, from what I gather, has never been permanent.
So maybe that's nature's way of moderation.

Nice post. It sounds like we may be in similar careers. When I first started it was one or two a week. Then, it went to one a day & sometimes on my off days 2. I’m on vacation right now so it’s been two a day & I may slip a third one in sometimes. But, I put down cigarettes, a pack to a pack & a half a day. So, I don’t consider one cigars a day or even two to be that bad.

The draw is definitely real. I, like almost everyone here, look forward to smoking when i get off work. I started by only having one a few days a week, that turned into one a day and then multiple depending on time. If you are like me, budget will eventually kick in and force your smoking into check.
At least until you go to your first herf, in which case you will smoke more than you thought possible.
@multi-useless less than 2 weeks til sw mo herf 2!

This is true - I don't even know what my record for most cigars in a day is, but between your place last year and the Vegas herf the year before, I'm certain you were there to see it, lol
