How’s it working out running EMS night shift and volunteering with the FD?Well I'll say unless I'm otherwise disposed I will be in here overnight pretty much every night since I stay night shift all the time
I work 7 on 7 off so I respond on my 7 off. My volly is big, two stations, we have a Ferrara mvp quint, two older engines, tanker, grass rig, mini pumper, and a rescue pickup. We have about 40 members. Day time there is a paid guy 0700-1900, we do a signup on nights so there is at least 2 responders to every call at night, and they love that I am available immediately at night because unless I'm having libations I respond. We do about 1200 calls a year. How’s it working out running EMS night shift and volunteering with the FD?

Nice, we run about half as many volunteers serving three communities that are isolated from the rest of the world. 4 engines, 3 tankers and 3 grass rigs.I work 7 on 7 off so I respond on my 7 off. I wont lie, we are a bit spoiled, but we have three big college housing apartment buildings, and a few neighborhoods with 6k-12k sqft house in the price range of 600k-1.2m. Good tax base, just got new morning pride gear, it's so freaking nice compared to what I had lolNice, we run about half as many volunteers serving three communities that are isolated from the rest of the world. 4 engines, 3 tankers and 3 grass rigs.

Nice to know a few other fellow vollies here on BOTL.I wont lie, we are a bit spoiled, but we have three big college housing apartment buildings, and a few neighborhoods with 6k-12k sqft house in the price range of 600k-1.2m. Oh yes we do. Past few years though, one of the hospital systems (Northwell Health) started to branch into 2 or 3 towns in Nassau County and assist the vollies picking up some alarms because it's been that crazy here. The Nassau county police also have their ambulance bureau and will also work alongside the vollies.Yall have vollies on long island?

Suffolk county though has "MEDCAT" (Medical Crisis Aversion Team I think it's called?) officers who work as PO's and Paramedics. They'll usually be requested to respond to the more serious calls or MCI's. We don't see them too often but they're out there.
Both counties though have hired paid EMS staff during the day because our volunteer system has gone to shit because of people who have families to support and are working multiple jobs to make ends meet and no time to volley. Plus throughout Long Island, the calls have gone through the roof. It's the struggle and it's real. But we all try to do what we can when we have the time. My old department as of 7:36PM ET are at 2,036 alarms for the year so far.
Not to toot my own horn, but my buddies and I have a website that we started I think 5 going on 6 years for emergency scene photography. We're all vollies in our respective departments as well. But of course, we also do the fun stuff, like apparatus wetdowns, parades and drill team races too.
Nice, that's pretty crazy though. I didnt realize so much was volly out there, I'll have to snap some pics at the dept when I'm there next to postOh yes we do. Oh yeah. And we have some very unique trucks here too. My Uncle's friend Tom, who I've known all my life has a website called UNYque firetrucks. He goes all across the country or at least the northeast pixing the various apparatus. He's a fellow volley as well and was alongside my Uncle way back in the day. I'll post the link to his webpage here too.Nice, that's pretty crazy though. I didnt realize so much was volly out there, I'll have to snap some pics at the dept when I'm there next to post
