Hello Brothers (and sisters)

I guess I should introduce myself. First off I have been smoking pipes and cigars for about 7 years. I had my first cigar, an Arturo Fuente Short story, in a shop in Dayton Ohio called the Wharf. I hated it. After smoking pipes I used to a much more robust smoke. I launched myself into full-flavored heavy maduro smokes. The CAO Lx2 and Camacho Tripple Maduro was my jam. At the time I was serving in the USAF station at Wright-Patterson AFB and as my enlistment was coming to an end I applied to work part-time at my local B&M, the aforementioned Wharf. I worked there part-time for about 8 months when I left the Air Force and took the position as manager. Over the time I developed my palette and found that I love cigars all over the spectrum. One of my go-to is the CLE cuarenta (now know as just the Habano) and my humidor is pretty well stocked with Tattiaje, Drew Estate, Laranja, CAO Amazon basin and more.

After leaving the Wharf to be closer to my wife's family in Indiana I got the itch to get back into cigars and I am currently working at a fantastic new shop called Copper Canyon in Fort Wayne Indiana with. It is not a dedicated cigar shop but it has a nice humidor that was once a bank vault and a small lounge with big plans for expansion. I also work with a great tobacconist who is a member here but I have forgotten his username and would rather not put his personal name out there even though I am sure quite a few of you do know him.

I had actually signed up for this forum when it first started and I wish I had kept with you all as r/cigars quickly because a crap fest and I have just been limiting my cigar discussions with locals at the shop. Being back in the industry and hearing about how great this community is I am looking forward to interacting and learning from you all as I catch up on what I have missed and deepen my understanding in the wonderful world of cigars.

Welcome from West Lafayette! I'll have to hut you up the next time I'm in Ft Wayne, my grandparents live off of Homestead and Liberty Mills, I'm headed up for a Komets game on the 21st (grandparents have season tickets). If it is @Hoshneer and there is a chance you will both be working I'll definitely try to plan to stop I and meet you guys :)

Edit: you posted while I did and I see that it is Hoshneer

Welcome!

As someone who works in the industry, should I store my cigars with or without the cello? ;);)
I always tell people it is a personal preference. If you want to age a cigar and you have a Spanish cedar humidor or drawers than no cello but be prepared for more work as you need to monitor and rotate more often. The advantage of the cello is that it helps stabilize and slow humidity loss and gain from opening your home or if you have any issues. Also it helps prevent the spread of mold if you get too high, it can happen to the best of us even when you are actively monitoring. I have found that the difference in aging in cello and out of cello is not that big of a difference and some of my sticks I de sleave and others I haven't. In the end, in my opinion, it's not that big of a difference and either way is acceptable.

Well Hoshneer typically works Friday mornings and is off in the evening and I am off all day but I would be more than happy to meet up and share a smoke.

I met Machado at our first Drew Estate event. I realized he was a cigar and pipe geek as well and was very impressed with his knowledge. The one thing I've learned working in the shop is that we are actually a pretty rare breed in the cigar world. So when a spot opened in the shop I messaged him first.

We have a great community here and I always love to share my experience. I wouldn't have met Machado or be working in a shop if it wasn't for this board. You will find a great home here.

I don't say this lightly but I love these guys on the board and they are my family. They have been there for me through house fires and Disney trips. I would be less of a person without them.
