Batch variances could also be a big factor though couldn't they?

Those could be getting in a nice zone earlier than some other batches from some other years.

The fiver of 16's I got seem like they'll need a decade....

It's not impossible, Jeremy, but I've been buying 50 cabs since '05, and it's been pretty consistent for me. I have had good PLPCs with less than 7 years, but all the great ones were at least that old. Aged them all myself too so environment was consistent as well.

I agree PLPC benefit from 5 plus years of age.
yes they are smokable before that, but the wait pays off in flavor.
Like so many CCs, or wine, you get the benefit of age if you wait for it.
