Would they treat someone who walked into a cigar lounge they regularly frequent that way? I doubt it, so why do it on a message board I have no idea.
Wise words Josh! I have always said that most of the blowhards, no matter where they are, would not have the balls to say this sort of thing to someone's face. Hanging out here is kinda like hanging out in Cheers. Well, for us old guys!

I am glad I found this place first and certainly call this site my home. I felt welcomed since day 1 and try to make everyone feel the same way.

I am very lucky to have found this board. I don't belong to any other board and I don't feel like I need any other board. I loke the fellowship here and trust what the brothers have to say because they have proven to be knowledgeable and trustworthy. This is my cigar home and I feel honored to be a part of it. You noobies are also luck to have found BOTL, learn from the FOGs and keep up in the threads. There is a wealth of friendship and knowledge within this forums. :peace:

There are other cigar forums? You guys are kidding, right?

Honestly, I looked around for about 2 days when I started getting serious about smokes, and this is the only site that I saw that really looked like it would help me out. Haven't looked back since.

This is my home site. A great group of people that share ideas, tastes, new cigars and opinions. A group of friends versus just a chat room. Brother seems to mean something here. Great sharing with you guys.

Most of the other ones treat new people like new pledges at a fraternity house giving them old fashioned hazing. Would they treat someone who walked into a cigar lounge they regularly frequent that way? I doubt it, so why do it on a message board I have no idea.
Well said...

There is some stuff going on here on some threads that I'm not happy with. While we treat newbies and FOGs both with respect, you are expected to conduct yourselves accordingly. If you make a mistake, come clean and make it right. If you are taking advantage of someone, or exploiting a loophole in some competition you've got goin, you aren't welcome here.

The concept is simple, Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Newbs looking to come here and fish for sources or cheat people out of smokes shouldn't bother coming.

I don't think that Scamming smoke would work here more than once. I think they would be ousted rather fast by the brothers for something like that.

Very well said Kevin.. and I was explicitedly involved there. We all make mistakes, we all get busy, we all say stupid shit (me moreso than others but hell)...

I have prided myself on the fact that new members can come here and ask the dumbest question and instead of getting flamed for it we find the post answering the question and inform them, that means a bunch to them..

Yes, I have been here from day one, but was a Newbie somewhere first, and I must say that this is the easiest place to be new and learn

BOTL.org is truly a unique place. Here is a little history for you newer guys:

Eric said:
BOTL.org was born on May 28th, 2004

I registered the domain with the intent of having a huge network and free hosting for each city/region/state/country to have their own website for herf listings, local cigar info, etc.

In June, the first use of the domain was http://houston.botl.org in which hosted a page for the herf that month.

Fast-forward to October/November of 2004 when the my (then) home cigar community, was having alot of server problems. Even while the forums were down, the IRC chat room would usually still be working as it was on a different server. David and I had by that time done several box splits, spent alot of time conversing in the chat room and become good friends.

In late November, early December - I commented to David that I should throw a forum up on BOTL so we could have a place to post. David basically agreed and pushed me to go ahead with it. Thus, on December 3rd, 2004 the forums were born...

These forums above all that I've browsed, is definitely the friendliest. I appreciate the consideration and patience that's routinely shown to noobs such as me, unlike other namless forums *cough* cA *cough*. It really makes you want to stick around and be a part of the family.

Thanks guys
