Using a refrigerator+tupperware as humidor

Has anyone tried this? Ive been considering getting something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/PREMIUM-9-0-cu-ft-Single-Door-Commercial-Refrigerator-Beverage-Cooler-in-Gray-PRF90DX/302030690
and putting my cigars inside of it, inside of tuperware. I imagine the biggest issue would be getting it to allow the temperature range to be 60-65 degrees, vs the 20-40 that refrigerators usually operate in.

Anyone tried this? What do you think?

My intention is actually to put the cigars inside of Tupperware, and then place the sealed Tupperware inside the refrigerator. I figured that would give me a greater degree of isolation and control over the cigars themselves.

I have two repurposed refrigerators with over 1300 cigars doing quite nicely. Use a "kegarator" temp control to run the unit. If you use well sealed (with the foam ring) tuperdors they act as their own individual humidity chambers. Best option in my opinion for warm rooms or outside storage.

What ever I set it at. During the winter I use small heaters.

You can set a range of on off. During the summer mine is set to cool when it rises to 64 and kicks of at 62,

The kegarator I use has both a cool and warm outlet

It’s a sound idea. If a beverage cooler/large compressor cooler is your goal, local Craigslist is the way to go. Compressor units are stronger/last longer than thermoelectric and too many people are getting rid of old refrigerators/wine coolers/restaurant equipment to be paying retail. Save money and buy more cigars

What resources did you use to modify the fridge to have a brewing type temp sensor? Know of any references I can use? I'm pretty decent with electronics but it's nice to have a reference sheet!

You are just using the Kegarator to cycle the refrigerator. Kegarator is a general term that I may be misusing the temperature control unit is use is a

It's an ITC 308 You set a value for temperature and then a differential for both heat and cool. My set value (SV) is 61 and I have set a 2 degree cooling differential meaning when internal temperature reaches 63 the Inkbird sends power to the cooling outlet and the refrigerator turns on.

When I was keeping my cigars in the unheated garage I set a heat differential that when reached the Inkbird would send power to the heat outlet where I had a small electric heater plugged in. There is a temperature probe form the inkbird that i route into the fridge.

I have separate Inkbirds for each refrigerator

I like that idea, I could make use of garage space instead of warming my bedroom running 3 coolers. This bedroom is always around 80 because of them. Most rooms in my house are around 76 (a little too warm for safe cigar storage)

If you are planning on doing a single refrigerator setup instead of the three separate coolers a bit of advice.

From my experience and based on discussions with the brothers on this board you will not be replacing storage, you will be adding to storage! Always amazing to me how empty humidor space always magically gets used or refills itself. Those are nice units, I know you wont waste them!!

I get it @Boudie my 1st cheapie wood humi is still full. In this case if I go with fridges I'll probably sell the winos because I don't like how they heat my house.

I'm also considering using a window AC to cool a room and just unplugging the winos.

Not sure what that will do to my electric....

The amount of electricity burned by a small window unit really isn't to far out in left field. If you are trying to use the window unit to get your room to the temps on the displays yea it may get a bit expensive. Why not just use the window unit to knock of the 80's, getting down to a temp you are more comfortable in, say mid 70s

Well my rooms are usually 76-77 so I'd probably set the window unit to economy 72. Then I could put all my stuff in 1 room and buy coolers in the future. It's a 10x12 room with a 6k window unit.
