Asylum Friday The 13th

It only took 7.5 months for it to taste like an above average yard 'gar. Hey, at least it has flavor now. For a while they just tasted like hot air and disappointment.

Edit: Towards the end of the first third this turns in to a decent cigar. It has Eiroa's signature all over it with bits of wood, mineral, fruit, and that signature spice that is kinda light on the palate while lingering. The construction and burn still leave something to be desired though. It burns fast and the ash is a bit flaky.

As you get past the halfway point the burn slows down and the construction seems to improve. The last third is a richly complex smoke. There is a cedar more akin to a well seasoned and aged humidor than the bright nearly citrus flavor usually associated with cedar. A nice spice that seems more like dried peppers lingers after the retro and a bit of earthy cooking spice dances underneath. It is a savory and woody smoke.

I still wouldn't recommend it based on the fact that it took nearly eight months to get to this point. I like the new school style of blending more. I am happy I have at least one more hiding somewhere though.

Paul Stulac Red Screaming Sun @MikeNice it was really good. I feel like the ones I had a few years ago were better, but no complaints.

Another on the long list of must buy cigars. The only place I know of selling them is Privada. So, I may settle for singles.

I am glad they still hold up well. I have a soft spot for his smokes.

This one has a darker wrapper than the first one I smoked and starts with a better presentation of what I expect from a Cameroon wrapper. Woody and spicy would be the first descriptors that come to mind. There is a surprising lack of sweetness in the first few puffs.

At the halfway point the flavors are cedar, pepper, and salty bread. A little bit of sweetness pops in and out reminding me of something I have eaten for desert at either an Indian or Mexican restaurant. It doesn't make a huge impression and doesn't really change my impression of the cigar. It isn't a bad cigar, but doesn't really offer anything that makes me want another.
