Blending Thread

Doing a little thread necromancy this morning. I have been playing around with my blending as I am getting back into a regular production groove and with some feedback from my brother in law requesting something a tad weaker than my typical 1:1:1 (ligero:viso:seco) blend ratio. The new ratio I’ve been playing with is .5:1:.5 and the two new blends I’ve tried with this have both been pretty spectacular to my tastes.

The first blend:
.5 Cibao valley criollo ligero, 1 Cibao valley corojo viso, .5 Ecuadorian habano seco, Ec habano binder and wrapper

The second:
.5 Dominican ligero, 1 criollo viso, .5 Cibao valley vuelta habano seco. I have done this blend with my Jochy Blanco Sumatra binder and Dominican binder and wrapped in corojo. This blend is rich with cocoa and sweetness and is made more special in that the viso and seco were gifted by Webmost

Gonna be a poignant moment when I finally run out of my webmost leaf, but that's probably a long ways off.

Interesting thing about your blends is that I was looking at a video of someone rolling a robusto I have enjoyed, and they were doing 1: 4: .5 I reckon you can do that if you have a great viso. I think some of my blends have gone wrong from too much ligero. I'm going to try something like a .5: 3: .5 today.

If you don't get any useful info here you might check out the Cigar Rollers forum on Facebook. A lot more members and activity there and I seem to recall that wrapper being mentioned by a few people. Don't remember the specifics tho.

Honestly I've only tried their Brazilian Fioano wrapper, which is turning into a go-to Maduro wrapper for me. I'm going to have to look into that one now though

Thanks for the above tips. I've been deep diving this thread and there is a lot of great info here while I'm waiting for Zuck to approve my admission into the private FB Cigar Rollers group. Just got some Nic Esteli Ligero and Seco fillers yesterday from LO that I will roll into some sticks this weekend.

Anyone have experience with the LO Ecuador Shade Ligero Wrapper? How does it compare to the PA or CT broadleaf or the WLT Habano 2000 Oscuro? Thanks

I usually go with the LO shade Seco, but have tried the ligeros as well. I’m a fan of the LO Ecuadorian wrapper leaves. The broadleaf wrappers are much bigger, thicker, heavier leaf so you get fewer of them per pound. The broadleaf wrappers also have much more pronounced veins, which I never really flattened out very well. Others here have so it’s possible, I simply never found the way to make that happen consistently.
I did enjoy the broadleaf and what it brings but found (for my taste) the best thing was to add a strip of broadleaf in the binder or body, not as the wrapper itself. The broadleaf as a wrapper would overpower my typical roll.
I haven’t really rolled this year ( I made 5 one night not too long ago) so this is all from the past.

I think the broadleaf brought more pepper while the LO Ecuador shade wrappers brought other spices.

Thanks Jim. I have been using the LO PA broadleaf and I'm looking for a little bit more flavor and spice. I tried the WLT Habano 2000 Oscuro on one of my blends this weekend and it was great. I have some LO Ecu Shade Ligero wrapper and CT Broadleaf coming in the mail this week. Going to use these for a few test sticks this weekend.
