I never deviate from this process:
1. Triple-freezer-bag all newly received cigars
2. Freezer for 72 hours
3. Leave on counter, still in bags, for 24 hours
4. Unbag and put into humidor

I will sometimes try a stick at a week, but usually wait a few weeks just to sample. Most of my stuff lies for a year before I smoke it, but I've been building my stash for like 15 years.

Try it at a week. If it's good, smoke on. If not, let the rest rest for a bit longer.
You still buy cigars?

I have a Humidimeter by Cigarmedics (actually 2, one for my office at work and one at home) and they work great for telling if a cigar is ready or not. Stick it in the foot a few times, get a few readings (usually they are +/- 1% RH or so) and if it reads like 60-65% it's good to go. If it's 65% it might be good, might not. 70% almost always burns badly and sometimes is less tasty. That's what I do at least. Well worth the investment for me, since I don't age most of my cigars long-term.
