Should you wait for the first hard frost or light freeze like deer?

The deer are already out in our neighborhood, and they have no fear. It's a shame I live in the burbs.

Oh they are everywhere for a large portion of the year. They've damn near walked a trail through my backyard. But, where I live the accepted practice has been to wait until you've had several nights of frost or a freeze. It supposedly helps get rid of the fleas and ticks as well as some viruses.

I don't know if it is right, but everyone I know does it that way.
