I need a good, free photo editor. Anyone know of one. Apparently my digital camara is too good to post the pics on here. I've got to get the file size down so I can upload them.

Sorry, can't help ya--I've been using Photoshop exclusively since the summer of 1991 (verson 2.0). As far as I'm concerned, there aren't any other image editors.

Jeese, and I thought I was cool starting off with a pirated version of 4.0 and bumping up to a legal 5.0 LE edition included with the purchase of a Wacom Tablet.

Damn you.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I didn't "purchase" a legal version for myself at home until version 4 in about 1997. Coincidentally, that was the "Big Electric Cat" version of Photoshop (and if you know what that means, you are DEFINITELY a long-time Photoshop user).

I've been looking for something myself. I found a free program called gimpshop that is supposed to be like and compatible with photoshop.
I haven't been able to get it to work well, but then I don't know how to use photoshop either so it is probably just me.

If you want to check it out here is the Link

You might be able to grab an earlier version of Photoshop Elements for next to nothing on ebay. It's under $100 brand new and works great. Like sheep, though I prefer PS CS2.

i wouldn't be surprised if there were more cracked versions of cs2 out there than legit versions. it seems everyone i know has a cracked version...i'm in college so that probably explains a lot too. i guess adobe software is like the cuban cigars of computer software, everybody wants it, but more people have it illegally than legally and a some people believe they're overrated for the cost...

Uh...Adobe software isn't "overrated for the cost" in the professional world. We just pre-ordered CS3 "Design Preimum" which contains full versions of Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. The Upgrade cost $600, the non-Upgrade costs $1800.

Now considering that I use those 6 pieces of software all-day every-day as my primary creation tools (and other than a web browser and email, I really don't use any other programs), I don't think $1800 is a big deal at all. Our overall marketing budget is nearly 2 million dollars, with our design budget grabbing about a 1/4 of that... so a few thousand in software isn't even a drop in the bucket.

They're complex professional tools--not toys--and are priced accordingly.

no, i do not personally think adobe software is overpriced, i've got photoshop, illustrator and premiere and they're worth every penny, i was just saying that some folks think they're overpriced. yeah, i mean for their functionality, ease of use and everything else, they're not that expensive at all.

I am in creative in corporate... I used to work at an agency for the previous 5 years (and before that 4 years at an interior design magazine) but I've given up the rat-race and am nore much happier in an in-house position. Oddly enough, I actually have MORE creative freedom in-house than I did at the agency. LOL

Photoshop... is overpriced because I don't need 90% of the features. It's like using a bulldozer as a pooper scooper. It gets the job done but is over kill for what is needed.

It's not overpriced... you're just not a professional user, to whom the software is targeted. Photoshop Elements is probably more up your alley since it's consumer-level software with about 90% of the pro features stripped out.

Of course, even that is overkill for simple picture resizing. Doesn't Windows XP come with some sort of built-in basic photo editor that can do simple resizing?
