After months of roasting with a Fresh Roast 8+ I've moved up to a Gene drum roaster. Now I have to learn to use it. Did my first roast using SM's Moka Kadir blend and it got away from me and ended up darker than desired. But it still looks useable.

But roasting almost a half of pound at a time is wonderful, and I've found some roast profiles on the internet that should help.

Home roasting is the only way to drink coffee, all the rest is swill.

Cheers

Awesome!

Still roasting with a hot air popper taking 3-4 batches to roast 1/2 a pound. Hope it goes well.

I roasted 4 batches of Ethiopian Longberry Harrar from CBC tonight. Should get me through the week.

Hey Mike, what's your batch capacity? I'm using a CO/SC set up that I've have for a few years now and can roast 1/2 to 1 lb at a time (green)....

CO/SC? not familiar with the term?? wazzat?

I've been roasting for several years and gone through (burned up) an Alp
and a Bravi...hot-air poppers don't have the capacity I want, so I still use
a Whirley-Pop until I can get my BB-Q roaster set up. usually cook up about
3-4 lb a week.

I considered a Gene Cafe when they came out: seems like a nice machine.
with a bit of trial and error, I'm sure you'll master batch size and roast with it.
keep us up to date on how it works out for you.

supermarket coffee is not an option; I'm spoiled

CO/SC is a Convection Oven / Stir Crazy roasting setup. After about a year of using this setup, I added a variable transformer to give me more control on the roasting profile.

I love the Genie. It will roast about 1/2 lb at a time, just right for my wife and I for several days. With my Fresh Roast I was roasting every other day just to keep us in coffee. Now I'm down to about once a week.

I'm currently on a long distance motorcycle trip, so I haven't used the genie in over a week. I hope to be home either Memorial Day or the day after. The motel coffee is lousy. Can't wait to have real cup of coffee.

I still would like to get into home roasting. Brian makes me unmotivated though.
