This is the fifth consecuitive day of major smoke in the air. It has been going on for two to three weeks now, some days are bad some you cant even tell. The fire first started up in southern GA (thanks tobby :headroll: )and the smoke worked its way down to centeral FL. Now we have 4 or 5 fires burning throughout the area covering about 500 acres or so. This is getting out of hand, I cant go outside without my eyes and lungs burning sometimes. The weather has been great and my most fav. thing to do is in the afternoon when the sun is setting is to head to the front porch and enjoy a cigar. Cant do that when the smoke is this bad. :cryloud:

I just want to say this sucks, but the good thing is I am still enjoying my cigars in my "man room". Now that all the cold weather is gone, are you all enjoying more cigars outside? And my last question is, what makes being outside smoking cigars most enjoyable to you? For me it is the sound of nature the amazing sunsets and the fact that another day has come and gone. I drink my coffee in the mornings while the sun comes up and smoke my cigars as the sun goes down, it relaxes me.

I know what you mean about fires, man. We had a couple big ones a few years back. It would literally rain ashes for a few days straight. The sky was full of smoke and you couldn't see the sun and the smoke was all tinted orange-brown. It was cool for about 5, maybe 10 minutes and then it pissed you off.

As for smoking outside, I like it cause you can relax and just watch stuff. I've got a forest in my backyard, so I sit there and watch it, maybe squirrels or woodpeckers (we shoot them, though, cause they peck our house), deer, coyotes, foxes, rabbits, whatever. It's just peaceful.
And if you're ever in Colorado then come see me - we have the most amazing sunsets you'll ever see.

I smoke outside if the weather is especially beautiful. Any amount of wind makes the experience worse for me, so I try to avoid it. There's something about smoking inside that I prefer most of the time, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just because I don't have the beautiful view that y'all seem to!

This post brought to mind a scene from Ron Howard's firefighter movie "Backdraft". In one part, the team has just put out a warehouse fire and are tearing the ceilings down to find any hot spots. Fireman Scott Glenn is seen coughing away in the post-fire odor and smoke ... but then he lights up a cigarette and is immediately relieved.

as for smoking outside, i'm in total agreement that it's a nature thing! nothing beats a spectacular sunrise, a hot cup of coffee, a bj, and a classic smoke!!

I smoke out back whenever possible. Listen to the sound of the waterfall and prop my feet up with a good book after work.

I feel ya man. It was weird when the smoke was blowing this way. The sky looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. Everything was light tan. I decided to go ahead and smoke outside anyway - just had to put a napkin over my drink so that ashes didn't fall into it. My car looked like it was covered in light snow!

On the other hand, it smelled like a great barbecue going on.

I totally relate to Rich K's post.

My back porch faces a highway. It's noisy and ugly, and I get blaring afternoon sun with no shade. Morning smoking would relieve the sun part, I suppose. It has been cold, but now that it has warmed up, it's been windy. When it gets warmer, I'll get up crazy early so there is little traffic and morning house-shade. But I'd like to enjoy evening smokes with rum somewhere other than my obnoxious back yard.

My friend has a finished basement with a smoking room. He has an air cleaner, an overhead projector hooked up to a PC, video games, music, etc. It has two leather couches, a pinball machine, humidor, big fat ashtray, and nice art on the wall. I am totally jealous that I have no indoor smoking place, and the outdoor smoking is not so pleasant.

<sigh>
</end whining>

That was a funny scene.

Stay safe and be sure to dust off that ash.
