That is a great trip! We floated the Middle Fork about 8 years ago and had a blast! It was in June and the snowmelt was huge that year...I just remember these huge chocolate-colored wave trains and hearing the boulders slamming and clanking as the current was tumbling them below. Got to see a mountain lion too, first one I ever saw in the wild.I've done the Middle Fork of the Salmon River (Class I - IV) in Idaho for a week that absolutely kicked ass. However, I did it in a kayak and it was much more fun than a raft.
Middle Fork River Expeditions, by recommendation. The guides were great, and god damn did they know how to cook. I've been in touch with some of them since then, and I plan on seeing if any of them are interested in doing a more serious river, ie the Futaleafu in Chile sometime in the near future. That is a great trip! What outfit did you go with? Or, did you just take a private trip?
...that's what I'll be doing this weekend. Leave early tomorrow, back Monday.
Class IV/V rapids, yessir!!
We went with Rocky Mountain River Tours and they were awesome as well. Great dutch oven cooking every night and top-notch guides! I'd recommend them to anyone who wanted to raft the River of No Return. :thumbsup:Middle Fork River Expeditions, by recommendation. The guides were great, and god damn did they know how to cook.
I dont remember if MFRE did the dutch oven or not, but they had a large cooking setup. One night we had Elk Steaks with Scalloped potatoes au gratin, another was grilled salmon, and I think a different night had Caesar salad with grilled chicken and shrimp. We went with Rocky Mountain River Tours and they were awesome as well. Sounds like A really good time.eace:Have some fun this weekend... Me and the wife did a bit of kayaking down the Oklawaha river... supposed to see some damn monkeys... didn't! Seems they filmed the old Tarzan movies in the Silver Springs area of Florida and there is a bunch of wild rhesus monkeys in the area... didn't see a one...
On the other hand ... the paddle was simply awesome... had my Xtreme cigar protection with me and was able to find landfall about 3/4 the way down.... fine time for my Padron along the river.... nice!
