Wow. To me, that sounds like a pretty sad attitude. Although I don't perform any more, I was a part-time professional magician for several years. It's true enough that I performed for a lot of children. Business was brisk in that market. But I also frequently performed for adults. In fact, my largest single paycheck was for a two-hour adult gig...and they enjoyed every minute of it without being "suckered."

Magic is a performing art. Of course, rational adults fully understand that the illusions and tricks aren't real magic. We also know that Spider-Man, Darth Vader, and Dracula aren't real, either. All the same, we willing suspend disbelief just for a little while in order to be entertained, amazed, or caught up in a good story. One should feel no more suckered by magic than by any other artistic work of fiction.
