I'm looking to buy a couple of boxes, seem to be a lot of 1998, 1999, 2000 boxes runniung around out there. Where those good or not good years for CCs? I need a little help, I just got a CAB of 50 Boli PC, but they are really young so I need to let them age, so I need a couple of boxes with a few years on them. What are the better years? 98,99,2000, 01,02,03? Need some advice? Oh yeah looking for PC's too.

It all depends on the cigars Donk. A box or two of 98 Boli PCs would be good as that seemed to be a good year for those (as well as quite a few other cigars). '99 and '00 can be hit or miss. Haven't heard much on the 01, 02 and 03 other than to say the 01 JL No. 1s were excellent. Honestly, I would say you might want to skip the 99's (again, just some random thoughts rattling around telling me I may have heard bad things about that year) and go with any of the others.

If you can find some 2004 boxes of Monte No. 4s those were some excellent cigars when they came out, I imagine they are even better now.

I've heard that the 03s and 04s were really good. Almost everyone I talk to thinks that the 06s will be the best batch in a long time.

Sounds like you need something to smoke now. Forgetting about potential for the future (which really shouldn't factor into this decision), it seems like you should be looking for 98s (super amazing fantastic for the most part) and I'd say that most 01s are now hitting their stride. 02s still seem a little too strong and young. I'm not entirely familiar with 03s and 04s, but it seems that opinions are all over the map. Late 05s-present are way too young unless you're looking for something that you not only know is good young, but also nearly impossible to find with any significant age on it (Party Shorts for example). In sum, avoid 99-00 and get the oldest available after that.:bottle:

Most of the 98's seem to be very good, although there were some quality control problems. Partagas PC's from '98 are great for taste and value. 97's were, for the most part, exceptional. You may still be able to find some 97' vintage; RyJ Churchill & Punch Punch were good examples. I agree with Jason on the 99's as they seem to be hit and miss. Quality control suffered a bit in the late 90's. '00 was quite good for some brands, such as Bolivar, SLR and Partagas, ditto for 01' and '02. JL #1's from '03 are really excellent for such a young smoke. Surprisingly, some MC #2 from '04 were very, very good for young stock.

IMHO, 95, 97, 02, 04, 05, and 06 were good. It seems that 2007 is turning out to be a great crop year as well. As far PC's go, I recommend PLPC's, Bolivar PC's, Monte #4's (of course), and RyJ Cedros Deluxe No 3's.

In general, years '99 and '00 were not kind to cuban cigars. Vendors still have fairly large stocks of these smokes for good reason. Fortunately, there are many good years to pick from. Recent years production give everyone hope that their aging potential is very good to excellent.

1995-96 was the last of the good stuff. 2004 was pretty kind...I don't know about anything else yet. I have a few boxes from 07 that I haven't opened yet, so I don't know about this years offering yet.

The funny thing is that in 2004, a lot of people were worried about "cooking" of the tobacco and how it would affect the tobacco in the long run. I guess we'll still have to wait and see.

Upmann PC's are not one of the better Upmann's, but that's just me. You smoke them and make the determination for yourself. You should look at some Boli PC's or party shorts judging from your description of what you are looking at. Instead of looking to buy boxes however, you might consider buying some samplers. That way you could get a better idea of what you like in that size.

Hey Kelly, have you considered SCdH Principes or PL PCs? On the Upmanns I agree with Kevin that the PC isn't the top of the line IMO. As far as 99 and 00 production the smaller rings where not as affected as the larger sizes. Just to be safe in the future I would shy away from 99/00 years when possible.

Actually I had thought about the P.L's how are they? Also I had thought about getting VR fomosos too. How are the SCdH? I have olny had one or two. It seems rather hard to find a place to buy aged cigars, well atleast someone with a lrger selection of aged stuff.
