BBZZRRTTT!

and then an awful smell of burning circuit board..

Thankfully just a power supply. Damn part of me was hoping to have an excuse to do a full upgrade. It scorched a good sized portion of the power supply. I'll have to post a picture.

You never know what sort of power spike went into the other components of your system during this burnout. So you could very well have a partially compromised motherboard, CPU, memory and video card ... and these will no doubt become disabled during some critical timeframe (like a online cigar purchase, update of your website or hold 'em game)

I suggest an immediate upgrade as a precautionary measure ...

Nope just a power supply.. *sigh* I so wanted an leet upgrade. It only happened as I was turning the computer on. Must have been a rogue dust bunny.

Once some of the Magic Smoke has escaped from a computer, it is only a matter of time before other problems arise.

If ALL of the Magic Smoke escapes, then you need to replace the entire thing.

Back up that data!

Good point, you have to think that there was some serious voltage going through those circuits. I would back up you data and start looking for cheap motherboards and processors. Then start looking at memory deals. That's usually how I upgrade, progressively. Well, not this time, I'm getting a ton of stuff from a friend in college that has to have the latest stuff to run his games. I miss college!:frown:

Yea, that's happened to me before. It especially sucks when you're not schooled on computer parts and have no clue what just happened!
