Montecristi Panama Hat

For fathers day I received two Panama hats. One a beach hat and the other a Havana blocked Fino with 300+ weaves/square inch. The Havana Fino is an awesome hat. I did not know that staw could be so fine. The amazing thing is that this hat is at the low end of the Montecristi Panama hats that are available. This picture was taken Sunday night. I have worked on flattening the brim a bit since then (I guess it didn't like that boxed trip from Ecuador.

Great looking hat...and it could be just the ticket for me, too. My current hat, which I'm seldom seen without, is the Stetson Three Forks Gun Club Hat but I've been thinking about something lighter for summer wear. I'm fond of the Stetson's profile and would favor a straw hat with a similar look.

I've seen some of these that go way up above $700. They are a little out of my price range, but seeing the work that goes into them I understand. Beautiful hat!

I went ahead and ordered one of these as I came across a post by Robert Weber (of Panama Hatworks) offering a 15% off sale on these this weekend. It's basically the same as the one pictured above, except with a brown band. Should go very well with a guayabera shirt, a cigar and a mojito.

The Tilly looks as though it would be a good durable hat to have for the times that a straw could be a little delicate. That Tilley has a lifetime warrantyopeyes:
