I'm in the market for a new 18 volt drill. I've been think about getting a Bosch, but I'm always tempted to purchase the DeWalt. Anyways just thought I'd see what you guy use and how you like them?

I have a dewalt and I love it. Got it with two extra batteries and a 7.2 volt screwdriver combo at lowes a couple of years back. I am not a everyday user, but I use it often and I have never had a problem with it. Just my $0.02.

I love Makita, I used it almost everyday throughout the summer. It had 3 speeds you could choose from and you could switch it from the drill setting to the clutch setting. Bosch is good too though.

It seems like all of the higher end drills now a days are really good. You do get what you pay for. I have always been a dwalt fan but I do really like the higher end makita drills. I have a Craftsman that I have had for about four years and have put it through some major pain and it still performs really well. Bosch is nice and so are the Milwaukees but they are a little pricier.

My drill is cheapie Ryobi from a big-box home improvement store, but just about every other power tool I own is either a Black & Decker or a DeWalt (which, as you probably know, is just a somewhat higher-end Black & Decker). I know they're not the greatest tools, but for my relatively limited use, they're fine and are relatively affordable.

I have several friends who swear by Makita (and in the case of Sawzalls, Milwaukee) but I've personally found them to be overkill (and hence overpriced) for my limited use.

My only suggestion is this: no matter what brand you buy, make sure you get one with a good chuck key. 99% of the frustration I've experienced with drills revolves around the freakin' chuck key. Ugh.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad no one seems to have had bad experiences with either one. I think is just going to be a coin flip on which one I buy. My father currently has a Bosch and swears by it, but I've always liked the DeWalts.

DeWalt XRP. Though the batteries are like $100 fricking dollars each.
I've got an 18v Ryobi that came in one of those 5-pack tool kits for like $150 or something. Also have a 14.4v B&D with a laser level and love the thing!
Anything that requires more power than that at my house would surprise me, and I'd just pull out the old corded hammer drill.

I think at one point, I've probably used most major brands that are out there. Most of the bigger name companies are going to produce a quality tool that will get the job done (*disclaimer* does not include anything from Harbor Freight). Having said that, I would pick which one was the most comfortable to use. Keep in mind that includes clutch adjustments, reversing switch, gear speed switch, and the chuck. If you're looking for a nuts & bolts comparison between products, Fine Woodworking does comparisons on just about everything that's on the market. Here's the link to the 18V cordless drills. Took about 10 seconds to find it too, so there search engine works quite well. http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/ToolGuide/ToolguideDirectory.aspx?dir=Drill-Drivers&subdir=18v+or+more
